Stein K S Posted March 3, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted March 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I guess I should not pursue this issue... However, I had for a week or so the new Super-Elmar-M 21mm asph... this was in Nov 2011 and I do believe that I was one of the very first to receive this lens at least in my country (the version shown in LFI july 2011 and in Puts latest lens compendium). However, Leica recalled this lens due to some "adjustments needed". I was of course eager for my lens to be ok, so I shipped it back. However, weeks turned into months with no info from Leica... so finally I decided to get my money back. What I do see now is that this was not an "adjustment issue"... The entire lens is mechanically rebuilt. Â So to the question I probably should not ask; does anyone have any info about number of lenses of the first version that could be out there... And what a possible value could be? Â ... I know I am asking for it...! Â Stein Kjetil

01af Posted March 4, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted March 4, 2013 As far as I can tell, no collector's market has formed for the first version of the Super-Elmar-M 21 mm 1:3.4 Asph ... not yet. However I would not be surprised when in, like, 10 or 20 years from now it'll be worth a little fortune, due to scarcity. Â The update, as far as I know, was just a thicker barrel in the lower part of the lens (where the depth-of-field scale is). In the original version, it was possible to block the focusing when pressing the barrel real hard with your fingers (which no-one would do anyway in regular use). I hear the moving parts as well as the glass were unchanged.

rramesh Posted March 4, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted March 4, 2013 Why hold on to a model that was recalled and wait for it to appreciate, when you can have it replaced by Leica for a new one.
marknorton Posted March 4, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted March 4, 2013 I would definitely replace it, it's the best 21mm IMHO of the 4 I have at that focal length.

I know, I know... the true value is in the use! Thanks for the reminder! It should not have been neccessary.  Its just... it was probaly most usable... while appreciating... and I could have had it all
