tom0511 Posted March 27, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know it doesnt help but I have to write this to express my frustration: Â Why does Leica not manage to give us something against cyan corners in 4 months??? Â Lately I havent done much wide angle, my 24 and 21 sit in the shelve because of this, but next week I will go to Portugal/Algarve and would like to shoot with these lenses and I am just dissappointed how long Leica let people wait. Not only for filters (good thing I bough B&W) but also for a firmware with cyan corner correction. I used the 24mm with filters during my last vacation and these Snow-shots with cyan corners didnt look great. I usually do not postprocess my images much, mostly just some corrections in c1 and directly convert to print size. I understand there are some post-correction posibilities- but that means even more time for post, even more fideling with getting the right color etc. etc. Â Come one Leica-move on!!!! Please. Advertisement Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Hi tom0511, Take a look here I hate these cyan corners. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted March 27, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 27, 2007 If you use the Panotools filter to corect the cyan corners you could set up some actions to do this, just a click to correct. Assuming you use Photoshop. Â The new firmware should be released in the next few weeks, so hopefully there's not too long to wait.
carstenw Posted March 27, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 27, 2007 Depending on subject matter, it might make sense to just remove the filters for now.
reven Posted March 27, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 27, 2007 That's Leica. We will have to live with it. Oh I forgot I bet the new firmware won't be here before July.

stevem7 Posted March 27, 2007 Share #12  Posted March 27, 2007 Take off the filters. I use my 21 all of the time without a filter and never have a cyan (or magenta) problem.  All of these were taken with a NON coded 21 Elmarit pre ASPH lens without a filter. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 27, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted March 27, 2007 Again Guy,only if you have Leica's coded lenses:mad: ... Â Â No you make your lenses coded, Make a Zeiss 35 a leica 35mm. use the sharpie techniques to cheat this. They coding was orginally there for vignetting that was the design for it and the only way you can work with the micro lenses to clean up the falloff from the lens was to do this in camera. That was the orginal intent and was not mandatory thing. It was completely optionaly and also in ACR you can fix that. What they did not count on was the IR issue now if there is a software out there that can add red to the vignetting than your golden. But there is none except Pano Tools at the moment. The other option is hand code them. The other option for CV users is get the corrct adapter and etch the adapter than paint in the correct code for the lens . Here is a simple case where you get a guy like Steve Gandy involved from cameraquest get a bunch of adapters in the 3 framelines have them all have the coding dots made when the manufactuer the adapters than the end user paints in the correct code for the lens at hand. no one has thought of this and no one has done it. Extremely simple get someone involved to produce these. Than have a guy like Steve sell the right frameline adapter for your lens and than code it to you CV using the Leica code . Than your in. robsteve Posted March 27, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted March 27, 2007 For the non-Leica lenses, people should be complaining to the manufacturer, not Leica. Leica made it very clear in early December that coded lenses would be required for the UV/IR filters. Â The only people that have a legitimate complaint are those that bought a M8 prior to this statement by Leica on the IR issues. Anybody on the forum that purchased a M8 after reading the Leica statement about coding being required, bought the camera with this knowledge in mind. Â Complain to Zeiss and Cosina, they are the ones with the lenses that have the problems. Tell Zeiss and Cosina that you will not buy their lenses unless they come up with a solution. stunsworth Posted March 27, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted March 27, 2007 Steve if you've never seen the magenta problem you have been very lucking in choosing your subjects. The only time I would consider using a lens without a filter is when I don't have a filter of the correct size - cyan corners or not :-)

I do have to agree with Robert here engage Zeiss and Cosina on this. There lenses are being bought for the RD-1 and M8. Maybe they can start designing the mount with the code. heck all they have to do is drill press the code in the existing lenses, than paint it in. Exactly what Leica has to do is mill it out. Or like I said get someone like John Milich or Steve Gandy to either send your lens in for milling or buying adapters for the CV lenses. There are folks out there that would LOVE to have the milling business at 125 or less each lens.
reven Posted March 27, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted March 27, 2007 How do we know that Other Companies are allowed to use the code from leica ? As far as i know they are not.
ChrisC Posted March 27, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted March 27, 2007 How do we know that Other Companies are allowed to use the code from leica ? As far as i know they are not. Â Christopher - I think the point Guy is making is that all we need is the six divots in the lens mount to colour fill-in ourselves. In that sense the lens manufacturer would not be using Leica's codes. I agree with Guy, Zeiss and CV appear to be slow off the mark with the M8 market. tom0511 Posted March 27, 2007 Author Share #20 Â Posted March 27, 2007 I also dont see how Zeiss and CV would code their lenses for a Leica body. I dont believe that Leica will offer a firmware with manual lens input but I think they should. They really should.
