wlaidlaw Posted February 21, 2013 Share #1  Posted February 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) In early December last year, my Ricoh GX200 back up camera started to play up with a sticking extending and retracting lens (now cured with a vacuum cleaner) so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and bought a second hand Olympus EP-2 with VF-2, ready for the M240 I have on order. The cost of the two with a 14-42 kit lens was less than the cost of the identical EVF-2 from Leica, so a win-win solution for me. In order to practice with the long R lenses I had bought, I got a cheap no-name M to m4/3 adapter from Fleabay. It was horrible with badly machined male and female bayonets, both of which wobbled on the respective body and lens. It was nearly 0.5mm too thin into the bargain and the bayonets were not totally parallel.  Earlier this week, I thought I would upgrade and was a bit taken aback by the price of Panasonic/Olympus/Voigtlander/Novoflex adapters, ranging from £140 to £170 plus postage. This seemed generous pricing for a passive adapter. Having read good reports about the Metabones lens speed booster, I decided to go for their M to m4/3 adapter for £65. It arrived today and seems very nicely made. As I had all the measuring tools out to check the Muscelli Visoflex adapter, I ran them over the Metabones. The thickness was spot on at 8.55mm flange to flange and the bayonets check out as exactly parallel, using a dial gauge and M&W flat surface plate. The bayonets are a very snug fit both on lens and body and are chrome plated brass not soft aluminium. I cannot envisage what extra you would get on the more expensive adapters.  Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted February 21, 2013 Author Share #3 Â Posted February 21, 2013 Looks like the Voigtlander adapter but a lot cheaper. Voigtlaender - Adapter MFT/LEM Â Ramchand, Â It looks identical, even to the extent of the small hairsprings on the inside of the female bayonet. In which case it is a real bargain. BTW, the US price is $99 from the Metabones website. Â Wilson
