gogopix Posted March 26, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I actually missed the thursday shipping from NJ by a day (in 2nd week Feb. ) so actual could have been 5 weeks. Not bad, all things considering. Of course, that hasn't stopped me looking at all those gorgeous M lenses. LOL Regards
Advertisement Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Hi gogopix, Take a look here M8 back in 6 weeks JFTR. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted March 26, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 26, 2007 Does that mean you got it back, or you just sent it? If you got it back, congratulations! Mine also took 5 weeks. Unfortunately, the focusing still isn't quite right, so I may have to send it again at some point.
LJL Posted March 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 26, 2007 Yes, consider yourself fortunate. I just got mine back this morning.....9 weeks to the day from sending to NJ/Solms and back again. That is horrendous turn-around, and no matter how many excuses, get put forth, they really should be ashamed for that kind of delay. Again, glad you did get yours turned around faster. I missed a lot of potential shoots in the 9 weeks it was gone, and an now trying to re-acquaint myself. LJ
billh Posted March 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 26, 2007 Unfortunately, the focusing still isn't quite right, so I may have to send it again at some point. What isn't quite right? Mine focuses perfectly with the APO75, has terrible back focus with the 50f1.4ASPH (45 plus MM at 2 meters from the subject), the Noctilux focuses accurately, and the 35 Summilux ASPH is Ok to slightly on the back focus side. The 75 Summilux is also back focusing. For infinity focus I have to set the lenses at the infinity mark or they are way out of focus. I don’t have a filter for the Noctilux (maybe some day Leica will send these to us), so I mostly end up using the APO75. I have not tried to adjust the rangefinder because it works with some of the lenses - that creates a real dilemma. I am also not at all keen on sending it back to Germany. carstenw Posted March 26, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 26, 2007 My near-far balance is off. If I adjust the camera so that infinity is perfect, near focus is off, and vice versa. At the moment I have adjusted it so that near focus is perfect, and for infinity I just turn the focus ring to the end. For far, non-infinity distances, it is off and I have to guess how much to compensate by. The focus patch was also vertically out, but I just managed to adjust this: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/20134-leica-red-dot.html

I have developed a new appreciation for posters who claim there is far too much complaining on this board. I can safely say that leica is the best camera I own but do not use. xrogers Posted March 26, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 26, 2007 I wonder if that is indicative of the number of these things that have gone wrong? I sent mine in mid-January (must've been about the same time LJ and Stephen did) and it was back in five weeks. Nine and eleven weeks (and counting...) sound painful. --clyde
LJL Posted March 26, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2007 Quit you belly-aching! I am at 11 weeks and counting. I have developed a new appreciation for posters who claim there is far too much complaining on this board. I can safely say that leica is the best camera I own but do not use. Sorry, man, but I have needed this for several assignments, and it was not available. Owning it for 20 weeks and having it gone for 9 for repair is not my idea of the way to get things done. Your case sounds even worse, suggesting that you have had it available for less than half the time you have "owned" it. Interestingly, I had specifically asked about turn-around, and had explained that I needed it back by a certain date. Leica assured me that would not be a problem at all. They were not even close on that call. I do hate complaining, but in fairness, this is the only issue I have really said anything about. Instead, I have tended to be optimisitic and supportive of Leica's efforts. But when things start to have an impact on my work/business, my patience tends to grow a bit thin. My clients expect nothing less of me, so why should I not expect the same from Leica. You either are professional at this or not.....so far they are making some good efforts, but these kinds of turnarounds have no excuse. Sorry, that is how it looks to me at this point. LJ P.S. The camera was actually back in country over a week and half ago, but Solms did not have some paperwork correctly done for the rest of the container shipment, so it sat in Customs for an extra week. I can understand delays because of running into a parts problem or even if they were waiting to install the latest firmware or something, which they did not. It was a clerical error that held up an entire container of lenses, bodies, and who knows what else many have been waiting on. Somehow, that just seems like something that should NOT be happening at this stage of the game.

Some of mine are perfect, while others are way off, which is why I am not sure what to do with the camera.

The camera was actually back in country over a week and half ago, but Solms did not have some paperwork correctly done for the rest of the container shipment, so it sat in Customs for an extra week.. There is some FCC form about radio interference which needs to be filled out and sent with the camera. When mine broke I sent it directly to Germany, and when it came back, this form was not with it - in fact Leica faxed it to me and told me our customs people wanted it and I was supposed to fill it out. I had no clue how to do that, and the customs people said the factory is supposed to do this, not me - eventually I got around the issue by telling them it was a returned repair that had already been in the country. Of course that required three additional bits of information; the value of the camera, the amount the repair would cost had it not been under warranty, and a statement saying the repair had been carried out under warranty. scjohn Posted March 27, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 27, 2007 LJL: Karma is a wonderful thing. I had fumed in silence (pretty much) for the last several weeks. I made my post complaining, smiled from the sheer spite of it and two hours later my camera was delivered. Holding it after the wait, powering it up, and putting a lens on, I remembered really quickly why I love this camera. I have an assignment this weekend and had given up hope of using it but now... D2X to moth balls once again!
