carstenw Posted May 18, 2007 Share #221 Posted May 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tsoukalas, that is totally normal. The initial preview is made from a tiny JPG thumbnail stored in the header of the real image. It then takes a second or two to dig out the real data, apply the settings to it, and resize it for the screen. I wish it was faster, but it is what it is. chris_tribble Posted May 18, 2007 Share #222 Posted May 18, 2007 Carsten - is this seperate from what I've noticed this a couple of time (Venetian Blind Syndrome I think it's called....) with my second M8 body (firmware 1/102). I THINK it's related to a battery (the one supplied) which needs to go through a couple more charge / recharge cycles before it stabilizes... interested to hear if others are experiencing similar .. It may just be a case of waiting for the next firmware update... GUY - was this on the second shopping list? Best
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 18, 2007 Share #223 Posted May 18, 2007 When reviewing a picture (in M8) the image becomes clear, from a pixelate image, with one or two seconds delay. Is this a normal characteristic for this camera or shall it be repaired at the factory? Shall I wait for a firmware update? The firmware I have now is 1.102and the camera was bought a week ago...Thanks in advance Guy! It's normal now because there is added processing to the Raw DNG file. With the UV/IR on the raw now adds that new correction data to the DNG and it has to do it at the time after there the shot inside the camera , it really can't be done after the fact when you download because all that info comes from 1.102 . If you shoot a wide angle say a 28mm or so with filters one and the menu set for ON IR you will see it first come up with a uncorrected image than it will add that additional firmware correction to it and you can see the cyan corners go away , actually pretty cool if you ask me and you can see the effect happening. So yes now there is some processing time and really i am not sure there is anyway to speed that up . There is some play back issues there working on but not really specifically related but somewhat connected because it is all coming from the processor. we will have to wait and see what the fixes actually do to the normal speed of the camera. Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 18, 2007 Share #224 Posted May 18, 2007 Chris the venetian blind is a seperate issue but again it does come the firmware bug and also from the processor. We have to remember in most cases like this it is firmware that may have the bug but still needs to run through the processing of the camera , so even though this stuff is seperate it still is somewhat connected to processing. But they do know about all the main issues we have talked about like delayed review on playback , last image does not always show up on review and venetian blind. These are all correctable becuase there obviously happening all the time. the tough stuff to find is random issues like the venetin blind although that one maybe a little easier. Firmware debugging can be really hard becuase you need to find the root cause and that is not always apparent and you may find it fix it than affect something else. Best Chris, The only twice I have had Venetian blinds is after I bought and was using battery #3 a couple of weeks ago. My two original batteries would have completely stabilised before I installed 1.102. Maybe you have put your finger on it. Wilson
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 18, 2007 Share #226 Posted May 18, 2007 The last time i seen the venetian blinds was 3 days ago and before that about 3 thousand images. It is pretty rare but most of us have seen it. It almost always happens on updates
Dr. Von Tsouk Posted May 19, 2007 Share #227 Posted May 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been a M user since...God knows when and I am trying to get used to one more defect of this camera apart from the slow process. That is the very noisy M8 shutter, which for me is completely against M philosophy. 50% of the M way of shooting is destroyed at once! Thanks again, dr. von tsouk
carstenw Posted May 20, 2007 Share #228 Posted May 20, 2007 I have seen red/black venetian blinds twice recently, but never before. I don't think it has to do with the newness of the batteries, for that reason.

innerimager Posted May 25, 2007 Share #230 Posted May 25, 2007 Guy and all- You may have seen my recent thread asking about the vertical black line, in the same exact area, I get often at 640, regularly at 1250. Is this fixable in firmware and on the known laundry list for Leica or do I need a new camera? thanks..Peter
RMF Posted May 27, 2007 Share #231 Posted May 27, 2007 I second that...can we please have Leica address the thin vertical liine issue. I see it in my newly purchased M8 as well. Thanks Guy. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/25019-status-vertical-line-issue.html

Great if the message could get through to Leica as LOUDLY as possible... If the next firmware could offer us a quiet option for Single Shot mode, it would be so very, very welcome. Alberti Posted June 2, 2007 Share #233 Posted June 2, 2007 Additionally for the wish list in an update: Though at first I was scared of haphazard accidental button pushing when the camera hangs beneath my jacket (e.g. against my belt), I can't find a lost picture. Yes, sometimes the display is in 'play' mode. Yes, I've once seen the 'Delete box' up without having selected it. Firmware update suggestion: just for playing safe, a menu item could be added in a new firmware version that locks the delete/set combination.
