jaapv Posted March 26, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anybody else have this. With 1.092 one of my cameras forgets the user profiles and reverts to the factory settings when switched off. I'll revert to 1.09 and see if that helps. Shootist Posted March 26, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Are you sure it is going to the factory settings? When does this happen, IE are you carrying it when it does it?
jaapv Posted March 26, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Yes it reverts all the way, down to switching lens detection off, removing user settings etc. It happens when it is switched off I have this camera since early November, and it has only started doing this after I updated. I suspect there is a connection, but I cannot be sure until I "downdate" .
Fred Schang Posted March 26, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 26, 2007 I have seen this happen once with the current firmware. All settings reverted to default (save file numbering). This included time and date changes as well. Â Fred
jaapv Posted March 26, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Time and date remain correct
larry Posted March 26, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Jaap, Â I ran into this problem when I first got my cameras (ver. 1.09) and couldn't figure it out. Then I realized it happened only when I created a user profile without setting all the parameters in the main menu. I haven't had any problems with ver. 1.092, though. guywalder Posted March 26, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jaap, mine usually forgets that a user profile is set when I turn it off, but it doesnt change any settings. Once I turned it off, then on again after a few seconds and it still remembered it was set to profile 1. Once the file numbering 'reset', although not to 1, so it duplicated a set of file numbers. I dont think I changed anything (i.e. user error) but I cant be sure. Guy
jaapv Posted March 26, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Guy, that is what my other body does and this one used to as well. But now it loses all the settings of the user profiles, so they are all the same and similar to user 0. The annoying thing is that I suddenly am in Jpeg fine instead of DNG without knowing. guywalder Posted March 26, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Jaap, thats not good! have you tried re-loading 1.092? I have no idea if it will let you re-load the same version, but might be worth a try, maybe better than going backwards? Guy
jaapv Posted March 26, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Guy, I am thinking of reverting to 1.09 (by installing twice - I noticed that makes a difference when reverting from 1.091). And after that I will reload 1.092 again. I'll report on it tomorrow.
lejos Posted March 26, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted March 26, 2007 My first post. I have my M8 since the beginning of February, with no problems. Since installing 1.092, my camera resets files to 1 every time I change cards even with Picture Numbering set to Continuously. All the other settings are remembered. jaapv Posted March 26, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted March 26, 2007 So it is the firmware. On 1.09 my camera regained its memory. I will reinstall 1.092 now.
LJL Posted March 26, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted March 26, 2007 So it is the firmware. On 1.09 my camera regained its memory. I will reinstall 1.092 now. Â Jaap, I just got my M8 back today. It still has 1.09 on it. When I loaded in a battery, it came up at factory defaults and time, as I expected from a repair. I set the new time and that sticks. However, I reset things to my normal use settings, and did not save them as a profile. When I turned the camera off and then back on again, everything was unstuck except the date. This happened a couple of times, but now it seems to be "sticking". Again, this is with firmware 1.09, as I have not had a chance to install 1.092 yet. The only thing I can think that I was doing differently was not half-pressing the shutter button after making my menu selections, as I normally would. Instead, I just turned the menu off, and I think that did not save the settings. Â LJ

LJL Posted March 27, 2007 Share #16  Posted March 27, 2007 I think it only saves the settings upon half-pressing the shutter.  I am sure that is now the case. My comment was made as it has been 9 weeks since I sent the M8 off, and honestly, I probably will need a remedial use course tonight and tomorrow  Glad that you got things sorted. Have you figured out what you think may have been going wrong?  LJ
jaapv Posted March 27, 2007 Author Share #17 Â Posted March 27, 2007 Unfortunately that didn't clear up the situation. Now it writes all settings back to "user2" and changes around all the time. So I called Solms this morning and it will have to go in. I am very much impressed with Leica Customer service. Very short lines, I got connected to the right person immediately - and with Leica it is a person, not a department, we talked the problem over, I got a sincere apology for the inconvenience, and an UPS pickup call tomorrow. I do not doubt that the camera will reappear within a very short period of time. Â Leica did tell me that this problem sometimes happens and that normally reinstalling the firmware clears it up. It is unusual for a camera to need factory service over this.
