Nice shot. I like it.

 

I am confused. I thought high noise was pretty much automatic at 1250 especially with a black background such as in your shot. When I shoot anything underexposed of specklely.

 

Am I doing something wrong?

One factor was probably the lighting in the room, which was very blue. As you may know, the blue channel is noisier, so photos under higher red light overcompensate in the blue and push exposure there very hard, resulting in more overall noise. So, the noise situation can be mitigated by adding or changing light, which is not always an option, but sometimes it is.
