Rick Posted February 10, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted February 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting article about Panasonic's new sensor idea that splits off the spectrum of light after to micro lenses so that the energy from out of bayer filter spectrum isn't wasted on wells that are out of spectrum. 250swb Posted February 10, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted February 10, 2013 Interesting, well done Panasonic. I think there is now a genuine technology battle going on in the smaller sensor arena, led by Panasonic and Sony. I don't think it had gathered pace with the speed a lot of people had expected over the last few years, Panasonic seemed happy to fill the niche for m4/3 sensors and didn't have any competition. But with Olympus dumping them and going with Sony perhaps the lights went on in Panasonic HQ. Â Steve
pico Posted February 10, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted February 10, 2013 That is the kind of invention that makes me slap my head. Wow! Â Thanks for that, Rick!

But with Olympus dumping them and going with Sony perhaps the lights went on in Panasonic HQ. In fact even Panasonic went with Sony – the sensor in the GH3 is a Sony sensor, the same that Olympus uses.  Whether the new sensor design developed by Panasonic will ever be a serious contender is open to doubt; there are advantages as well as disadvantages to this design.
