stacking inkjet prints

Recommended Posts

i have a bunch of fine art printing in a stack on my dining room table.

they might be there for a while is that ok?

is it not ok to stack prints on top of each other for long term storage?

i was wondering about the shelf life of unused fine art paper like epson velvet?

thanks hoppyman.

Any print can get some marring on its surface in handling of course, even if only very fine scratches. Marks are more obvious on glossier surfaces. For practical everyday uses there shouldn't be any problems. A fine art print that you want to sell as a valuable object ought to be perfect.

As you would know different inks can fade to some degree with extended exposure to light.

It depends how "fine art"you want to get as I mentioned ;)

New prints appear instantly dry (on the right stock) but they can "out-gas" and the colour shift subtly as they dry. Leaving them overnight before packaging is a good plan. For archival storage your prints need to ideally in the dark and away from humidity as well as not in contact with any acid materials of course. You can get individual archival envelopes and all sorts of archival storage boxes etc if you want.

Keep it in its original packaging and it should have a long life. There aren't any Use By Dates like the cartridges. Never a problem around here, as it gets used up all too quickly along with the ink supplies.
