ibogost Posted March 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I live in Atlanta. I know there are some other folks on the forum from my neck of the woods. In my experience, there is no Leica dealer in the city . In fact, Atlanta seems to be a relatively lousy place for photographic supplies in general. We have one decent place but they wouldn't know a 39mm filter from a chicken sandwich (I asked and they didn't have either). Leica's dealer locator only searches a 200 mile radius, and there's no chance of a dealer outside metro Atlanta but within 200 miles. I travel frequently, but it's tiresome to try to find dealers in other cities, and usually they are not easily reachable during a busy trip. But sometimes you really do want to talk to someone in person or get your hands on something before buying. I'm sure a lot of us are far from dealers, so I know my situation is not unique, but what do the rest of you folks in the southeast US do?
Advertisement Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi ibogost, Take a look here Leica dealers in the Southeast US? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted March 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2007 Yes I'm also in Atlanta and the only dealer, to my knowledge, was the Wolf camera on 14th street. But they closed down some time ago and stopped carrying Leica stuf before that. Leica USA should put up a list of all dealers in the whole lower 48. I know there are some in Florida, I bought my M8 form one in Delray beach, but I doubt most of them carry any real stock of lenses and accessories. I was in Asheville last weekend and dropped into Iris camera, on Merrimon Ave, and they had a few piece of Leica gear but they are getting out of carrying Leica. If you want a deal on a M7 or a older un-coded 24mm Elmarit they are selling what they have at cost.
glenerrolrd Posted March 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2007 I spend about 5 months in Atlanta and the other 7 in Florida . KEH is in Atlanta and has a pretty great stock of new and used leica equipment. Last I checked they preferred to do everything by mail but would entertain an appointment. I try to buy everything via the internet and use all the known Leica specialists as well as BH etc. Sometimes you just want to see and try something..like finders, diopters , bags etc. I fly to NY ...visit Photovillage, Tamarkin, BH and hit the Leica Gallery. Between them you can probably find anything thats offered and sometimes come up with a few gems in used or overstock equipment. There are more options in FL but thats 10hrs from Atlanta. If you want supplies ...Showcase has a good stock ..so when you run out of paper or ink you can get it quick.
peter_n Posted March 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2007 Also visit Popflash (popflash.com). They have a new web site that is poorly done but the owner Tony Rose provides tremendous service and the prices are excellent.
ibogost Posted March 24, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted March 24, 2007 Right, I know KEH but my experience has been really you can't do much in person. Showcase is fine for supplies as you say, but they don't even entertain the idea of Leica or rangefinder equipment of any kind. Paper I don't really need to see in person either. I've been using the "fly to NY" type solution but it's not ideal. I second the need for a list of Leica dealers in the lower 48 on the website. Then I could easily plan around existing trips at least rather than guessing.
rsh Posted March 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2007 In Atlanta, Quality Camera is a Leica Dealer. Jeff Wheeler is the owner and he is very knowledgeable. Their number is 404-881-8700. I have dealt with him for years. KEH is also a good Leica Dealer, and I have had good luck with them, though I only deal with King whom I have known most of my life. Professional Photo Resources is still a dealer, but they keep very little stock. While there to buy film yesterday, I managed to pick up a new 90 Apo Summicrom M yesterday that had been on their shelf for years for $1,845.00.
