Removing dust

Well, I guess I am the first :)

I tried it on my 1D2 first, and it removed some very stubborn marks that I have been unable to remove after several attempts with eclipse fluid and pads. It didn't get every mark the first time, but did get more with a second pass, where I was paying much more attention to what I was doing. There are still a couple of other marks left, but I think with a little more effort even those would go. My sensor is now MUCH cleaner than it was before - which was how it was left after cleaning with Eclipse + Pads.

It is very simple to use, and I am not worried about it at all.

I have taken some test shots after the cleaning, and as prommised by the advertising, there is nothing to see in the way of residue :D

It's really not very sticky at all. In fact, it won't even stick to my skin.....

Thank you dave for the precision. It helps.

When trying to order, this is what they say :

Sorry, the Dust-Aid Store is closed due to complete sell out. All orders place on the 14th and 15th of March have been shipped. Sorry for the delay but we did not expect the huge bulk of orders all at one time. Processing this amount of orders took longer than expected, thank you for your patience. Backordered purchases placed between March 15th through the 22nd will be mailed within two business weeks. We will re-open soon. Thank you, The Dust-Aid Team

Must be appreciated

I'm uneasy with the pressure this thing allows you to place on the sensor cover glass which is thinner on the M8 than other cameras. Sensor Swabs bend, so you have to be a real dummy to press too hard. Cracking the M8 sensor glass would likely not be the happiest day in your life. I'm "sticking" to Sensor Swabs and Eclipse.

My M8 sensor has done well with just a simple large size blower.

ALL of my cameras have done well with a simple large size blower, or eclipse fluid and swabs, right up to the point where a spec of dust isn't removed by them. Until that happens, I continue to use the blower. Dust-Aid is not my 'first' go-to method (the blower is), but for spots that the other methods have failed to remove, 'and' are getting in the way, Dust-Aid does a fine job.

For those who live in fear of themselves (i.e. don't trust themsleves to do a good job) then feel free to either pay some one else to clean your sensor, or live with the spots. However, coming back to using an M, with the associated number of lens changes (due to primes), I needed something reliable to take with me when I fly.

Go ahead, be afraid, be very afraid, and knock this product all you like. Stick with what you know and avoid what you don't know. It's only human nature after all :)

This product worked very well 'for me' (perhaps I am more gentle than other people:)), removing otherwise very stubborn spots. If every one else is afraid to use it, it means there is more chance of them having stock if/when I want to order more :D

Blower and arctic butterfly are the first line. Eclipse is the second line. I would carry the eclipse in a small baggy in my luggage as opposed to my camera case! ;)

But *any* fluid like this is banned on airlines (at least within Europe, and from Europe in to the USA) - especially if it's flamable - regardless of "where" you carry it.

Dust Aid looks tempting. My problem isn't dust so much as spots that I would guess came in liquid form originally--machine oil, or? My M8 came to me with zillions of them. It went back to Solms and while it was there I asked them to get rid of the spots, and it came back with about 80% fewer spots. So I'd like to get rid of them. Seems to me that a liquid-based treatment like Arctic Butterfly swabs is more likely to get the best results. I am too chicken to do the treatment at this point, but may go for it this weekend. How does Dust Aid do on the sort of liquid-based spots I'm encountering?

I think the stubborn spots on my 1D2 sensor were propelant from compressed air can used by another photographer to clean (or attempt to clean) the sensor while I was not there. I would not have let him do this if i had been there!

The blower failed, Eclipse & Pads failed - even after several attempts on several occasions. Dust-Aid got most of them on the first pass, and all but one is now gone. I will have another go in a couple of days.

I am NOT recommending that every one try this product. Each to his own comfort level and tools. I merely responded to the original question with my own experiences.

There is another similar post about this subject where it was said :

A new product for sensor cleaning has been presented at the PMA show.

The interesting thing of this new method is what the Canon Professional Service staff in Spain uses for cleaning (from 6 months or so). I don't know if it is the same product, but is very, very similar. This method is fast and 100% secure:

DUST-AID : Adhesive Based Sensor Cleaner for DSLR's

The question is if Leica recommend its use on the M8 sensor.

Would be interesting to get more advice from users
