I will be recieving my new M8 (new to me in any case) on Monday. I also ordered a 40mm f1.4 lense and B&W UV/IR cut filter along with a new battery ( have no idea what the used M8 has in it but need a spare in any case). My question is is there any filter factor that needs be applied to the exposure? UV's normallly have none but i am totally unfamiliar with any IR filters. Am eagerly looking forward to the return to Leica rangefinders. Have been away for a few years trying to adapt to digital photography, rather poorly ,I might add. Old Leica user from way back, started with IIIc in 1956 and proceed to a couple of M6's in later years, then went to Leica SLRs and finally to Digital Nikons which I just could not ever become comfortable with so they are gone and I now have an M8. Eagerly anticipating its arrival.

The M8 has TTL exposure metering, so you can forget about filter factors in general. They are taking into account automatically. The filter factor of the 486 filter is 1, i.e. no difference in exposure.

Welcome to my world! I feel your pain. I started with rangefinders in 1974, and have had several M film bodies over the years, and sold my last M4 when I bought my first digital SLR... and the M8 wasn't yet on the horizon. When it was, it was priced as though it was made of Unobtanium.

It's great to be back though, and you'll really enjoy your M8. Be careful, tho... it's addicting. I got an M8 a couple of months ago and now I've sold ALL my DSLR gear, and in addition to the M8, I have an M9P as well with six lenses and a Visoflex... :D

Oh... and "what they said" on the filters... ;) And I just keep the UV/IR cut filters on all my lenses as really expensive UV filters for the M9P.
