scottbt320 Posted January 9, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, I'm brand new to Leica cameras and this forum. I have just purchased an immaculate M8 which I am yet to pick up. I was wondering if the M8 includes Lightroom software on the CD's or do you download it from a website? If so is it available for anyone other than the original owner? Cheers

Pampaloni Posted January 9, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2013 Hello the M8 never came with Lightroom, if i remember correctly, there is indeed Capture One in the bundle. Leica started to offer Lightroom with M9. Bye
Ronazle Posted January 10, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 10, 2013 To confirm the above. My M8s came with C1, the M9 with a complicated down-load of Lightroom. regards, ron
andybarton Posted January 10, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2013 To be fair, the download of Lightroom is no more complicated than registering your camera with Leica and using the serial number they send to you to complete the install of the Lightroom software. You can use the 30 day free trial during the period when they are sending you the SN and then register the software in the normal way. The Capture One install on an M8 CD has probably been registered and installed by the original owner and a new owner may have a problem installing it a second time. I would always assume, when buying second hand, that there will be no valid software included in the sale and factor in Lightroom, Capture One or Aperture, if I didn't have a copy already. bideford Posted January 10, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 10, 2013 Hi, Lightroom 4 is available in the UK for less than £80. I would view this as being a good investment for your photography with or without the M8 (assuming of course you are already have/have had other cameras). Personally, Lightroom 4 and Silver Efex Pro 2 are pretty much essential workflow for me. Enjoy the M8!
gfspencer Posted January 10, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2013 Go ahead and buy Lightroom 4. It's worth it.

Andy, to be equally fair, the download was simple. The verification procedure entailed finding the procedure and then contacting Leica and waiting for the serial number. No doubt, the process was more or less mandated by Adobe. regards, ron
jevidon Posted January 13, 2013 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2013 Lightroom converts your images to DNG format when you import them. Since Leica uses the DNG format from the get go, Lightroom is a perfect fit for the Leica M8 and I assume the other M cameras as well.

scottbt320 Posted January 15, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted January 15, 2013 Thanks, I've taken you advise and down loaded it on the 30 day free trial period.
ray*j*gun Posted January 15, 2013 Share #11 Posted January 15, 2013 I have an M8u and I use lightroom three because my PC is not strong enough for 4 but it is a great program for the M8 for the reasons noted. Buy it!!
terrycym Posted January 16, 2013 Share #12 Posted January 16, 2013 Lightroom converts your images to DNG format when you import them. Hmm, I don't think so, or at least not by default. I import Canon CR2 files into Lightroom and they're still CR2
jip Posted January 16, 2013 Share #13 Posted January 16, 2013 by default it converts everything to DNG, you can turn it of though.
