scjohn Posted January 8, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted January 8, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you to many of you for filter recommendations. I purchased several B+W MRC Nano clear filters to protect my Leica glass (I had not used protective filters before.) The B+W filters are beautifully machined. I never thought I could like a filter so much. Â BUT here is the question: what filter (if any) do I use for the 21mm 2.8? If I use the B+W I cannot attach the hood. Susie Posted January 9, 2013 Share #5  Posted January 9, 2013 I have a Leica 55mm UVa on my 21mm 2.8 Elmarit aspheric, and the hood fits fine. Gerry  Same here, but on the non-asph. I'm pretty sure it doesn't need it for any optical reasons - it's just to protect that huge area of glass.  Susie
scjohn Posted January 9, 2013 Author Share #6 Â Posted January 9, 2013 I have the Leica UD filter Leica sent when I bought the M8 but worry a "clear" filter would be optically cleaner than the ud on the m9.
