Joop van Heijgen Posted January 7, 2013 Share #21 Posted January 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Joop, but the accurate with Wein cell and inaccurate with silver oxide was easily reproducible, so it must have been the cell voltage that was the issue on my second MR-4 meter. Wilson My experience is that all MR 4 meters have a little bit an 'own' character. The aging of the meters could be the point. For my Leicaflex SL, I can say the same...Of all the cameras I do have no one give very exact the same metering result...also for the R cameras.... That is fine but it is essential that these are properly disposed of when run down, at a toxic chemical facility. Just one PX27 mercury cell, can apparently pollute up to 1 cubic meter of soil. I get rid of my old mercury batteries at the chemistry department of our local university. They were very understanding when I approached them. It is actually a myth that non-mercury cells contain no mercury. The following types of button cell batteries all contain some mercury: alkaline manganese silver oxide zinc-air It is just a question of quantity versus Mercuric Oxide cells. tobey bilek Posted January 29, 2013 Share #24 Posted January 29, 2013 The CRISIS adapter allows use of the common silver oxide cells. That is what I use in the clip on meters and it works well. For no initial investment, use the hearing aid battery, 1.35 volt, with an o ring to keep it centered. Recover the hearing aid holes when storing the camera same as you should do with Wein Cell. With no oxygen, the cell goes inactive until you uncover them again. They are cheap. Walgreen ones are fine. If your `flex has no off/on metering switch in the film advance lever, then have DAG install one . Until then, keep the cell covered with black tape or keep the camera in a bag or you kill the battery. I can probably find you an adapter if you you want. I had 5 at one time. Camera Repair by CRIS Camera Services: Digital Camera Repair: Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Pentax, Ricoh, Sigma Mine came from here. Look under products tab. They look like a hollowed out coin with a special resitor to step down the 1.5 cell to 1.35. Under no circumstances trust the 1.35 cells now sold. They are flashlight battery and lose voltage as they age thus throwing exposure off. The problem with the early cameras is they they did not have a voltage conpensation circuit built in because mercury cells were stable until they died, same as silver oxide. If you did find mercury cells, they would be old and probably not work well. I can get you some lenses if you are interested. There are several sets around from family members who no longer use them. All are three cammed so they work with the Leicaflex and all later R cameras. Again send a PM.

Wilson Nice you are concerned, but coal fired power plants put out hundreds of tons mercury. This is my issue with the green movement, they pick on the least effective people who can not defend themselves and leave the biggest polluters off free. Air travel is my peeve. 5000 gallons of fuel are burned to move a few people cross the US. Not only is there a carbon footprint, the pollution is enormous. In the US, there are 4000 jets in the air at any given time. After 9/11 and the jets were on the ground, the sky turned a beautiful azure blue horizon to horizon. I have never seen this before or since and it stayed that way for 30 days. The day they stared flying again, just a few flights, the dirty doughnut appeared over Chicago again. It has partially disappeared a day at a time a few times since. When I called the EPA, they had the nerve to tell me it was cars because people were not going to work. I don`t know a person who did not go to work. That shows you how fixated they get over the pet problem and ignore the big issue. BTW, fish are full of mercury because the water is full of mercury that waifs from power plants into the atmosphere and spreads over the entire world. High food chain fish are the worst like swordfish. China power plants do it with Chinese coal. How do we control that. If we are not careful, we will pollute ourselves off the planet.
