algrove Posted December 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am new to R lenses and need some advice/help. I have the 100 APO Macro R lens E60 #3414xxx, not ROM. I have just received the 100 1:1 adapter #14262 (the part number is not written on it). It has markings of: 100 in orange and Leitz Wetzlar Germany in white. The f stops in green range from 4 to 22. I cannot get this adapter and lens to mate up and lock in place. What might I be doing wrong? I have a similar type of adapter #14198 for my 60 macro and when I sent both lens and adapter to f22 and they mate up just fine. Just looked on Leica Wiki and now believe was sent the wrong adapter, i.e., the adapter I have is for the 100/4.0. Well, I also got the #14256 and it works on my 100/2.8 Macro. Advertisement Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Hi algrove, Take a look here 100 APO Macro and best 1:1 adapter?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robsteve Posted December 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2012 The adapter you have is for the older 100mm f4 Macro. The 100mm APO needs the special Elpro designed for it.

Hello, The Adapter you need is the Elpro 1:2-1:1 for R2.8/100 Nr. 16454. see picture. It is not easy to find on the Market and is not cheap, however, according Leica it is prefered for best sharpness in the range 1:2 to 1:1. However, before I found this item I have used a Novoflex bellow and an extension ring with good results. regards Peter Welcome, dear visitor! efreed2754 Posted January 5, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 5, 2013 Other alternative may be an APO double extender. That's what I did and believe Leica supports that approach. If I'm wrong please comment anyone.

Yes, the instruction booklet for the 100/2.8 says that "The APO-EXTENDER-R 2x is especially suited for use with the APO-MACRO-ELMARIT-R 100mm 2.8" (usual caveat about mounting the Extender on the camera first). Also says that the 1.4x Extender must not be used.
Peter Bailer Posted January 7, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2013 Yes, the instruction booklet for the 100/2.8 says that "The APO-EXTENDER-R 2x is especially suited for use with the APO-MACRO-ELMARIT-R 100mm 2.8" (usual caveat about mounting the Extender on the camera first). Also says that the 1.4x Extender must not be used. Advantage with the Elpro is that you are not loosing extra f-stops. Nothing is impossible, The 1.4x Apo-Extender can be used with a macro adapter in between, if you like add the 2xApo-Extender. than you have a 280mm Macrolens. However then it will get considerably darker looking through the prismfinder. Dont forget the automatic bellow from Novoflex. All above is not Leica recommended, however it works with good results. regards Peter Welcome, dear visitor! masjah Posted January 7, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) But at the macro level, you need all the depth of field you can get, which means stopping right down anyway. Using the lens with the extender in a non-macro context (as an effective 200/5.6 tele) is of course another matter. (I've no experience of this since I would use my 180/2.8 in this role.) The macro quality of the 100/2.8 + Elpro is stunning.

The macro quality of the 100/2.8 + Elpro is stunning. I see my setup basically to get a larger distance to the object in macro mode, stopped down and with remote TTL flash on R8/DMR. For normal distances I have the Apo 3.4x180 which is supposed to be not high performer for short distances. I have also the Apo 4x280 which works very well together with both extenders. regards Peter

Which 180/2.8 are you referring to non-APO model I or II or the APO model I or II?
masjah Posted January 9, 2013 Share #10 Posted January 9, 2013 Which 180/2.8 are you referring to non-APO model I or II or the APO model I or II? The latest Apo version the (ROM one which will accept both extenders).
skueh Posted January 10, 2013 Share #11 Posted January 10, 2013 The latest Apo version the (ROM one which will accept both extenders). To be specific, the latest Apo version (v2) is Nr.11357, The older APO version (V1) is Nr.11273.
fernando_b Posted January 10, 2013 Share #12 Posted January 10, 2013 "All above is not Leica recommended, however it works with good results. regards Peter" This is because the APO 100 works best with its own distance between its rear glass element and film plane. The last two glass element dont move when focussing, only the first six do it. Fernando.
andyedward Posted January 23, 2013 Share #13 Posted January 23, 2013 One thing to bear in mind when using the Elpro is that it wont focus to infinity, by a long way! When I first got an Elpro, I thought WTF, have I installed in properly?!, but thats just the way it is!
