Having not seen this posted yet, just thought to mention that the UV/IR cut filters I had ordered from Leica as part of the "2 free" deal just arrived this morning. It was a FedEx delivery, directly from Germany. I had asked Robert Fisk at Leica NJ about progress on this only yesterday, and he said things were not going through the NJ facility, as far as he knew. So, watch for the truck, folks, the filters are finally shipped and should be arriving.

Lisa,

I had ordered and received a 46mm and a 49mm. However, if anybody ordered a 60mm and needs a 49mm, I am eager to make that trade, since I do not need the 49mm now.

I think they are delivering these in the order in which the cameras were purchased, which is only fair

I hope to get mine soon, but likely will have to still wait a bit

:(

the filters make a huge difference, from my experience with the one I purchased

Arthur,

You may be correct about delivery order....not sure. I got my M8 on Nov 7, 2006, and I also registered for the filters the day the forms were released online, so in that respect I may have been nearer the front of the queue. However, since they now have a stock of them, and are not going through any intermediary steps in the NJ facility for dealing with customs and such, things may get to folks a bit quicker by the direct delivery method. They have a visa manifest displayed in a window envelope that should help expedite things from the direct shipment from Germany. I am just glad that they are finally shipping them to folks at this point.

I was told explicitly by Leica NJ (during another conversation in mid-February) that Leica planned to deliver filters to people based on (I'm assuming) registration date--from oldest to most recent registrations. So, those who have had cameras the longest will get filters first.

Thanks,

Will

Not to spoil the ending of the story, Sean did a comparison of several filters and the filters that Leica told him they would be sending were extremely close to B-W filters.

There have been suggestions that Leica might source the filters from other places, tho.

I have two on the way (I'm a Dec 13 baby) and plan to compare them to the B-W's that I have.

Bill,

I just did a quick look at my other B+W filters against the new Leica filters. (I do not yet have my camera back from Solms to shoot anything, if that would matter, so have to wait there.) Under a bright, daylight balanced flourescent lamp, the reflected light tube on the B+W filters (badged that way), looks a bit darker red than from the Leica filters. At first glance (literally), they appear to be slightly different in spectral reflectivity. I do not know how this translates to light finally passing through them.

Also, the filter ring itself is quite different from the B+W F-Pro filters. It is a bit deeper in total thickness, seems to be made of a much lighter material (aluminum v. brass?) and has two opposing places with deep knurling grooves for gripping from the sides, while the outer edge is smooth. In comparison, the B+W filters have a finely serrated edge to the filter ring for gripping.

So, I would not say these look exactly like the B+W F-Pro filters that I bought separately quite a while back, and I really have no other way to test them out until my M8 comes back....hopefuly tomorrow. Not raising any alarms or anything like that here, just pointing out that the two filters I received appear to have a slightly different spectral reflection and the filter ring material and design is different from the badged B+W filters that I already have. That could support the notion of a different source, or some slight specification changes from existing stock designs. Just my observations.

I'm wondering if all sizes are being delivered at the same time. I really need two 60mm, but they are fairly rare filters. I hope they got all of them in, and they didn't just order up the most commonly used first...

I bought Nov. 6, and live in Germany, but didn't get mine yet :(

49mm vs. 60mm: that sounds like the old 75 Cron vs. 75 Lux affair :)

Carsten,

Actually, it is a 75 Cron that now has a fiter, so I wanted to swap the new Leica filter for a 60mm for the Noctilux that should be on its way :D (You got the "Lux" part right, just not the FL and "Nocti-" versus "Sumi;")

Not sure how filters are being delivered in Germany, but check your door for a note from the DHL driver possibly..... Hope it arrives soon for you, and for everybody else that have been waiting for what seems like a very long time.
