robsteve Posted December 28, 2012 Share #21 Posted December 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) What colour was the cap on the Eclipse? I think the original Methanol based Eclipse has a Red cap, the newer E2 Eclipse has a white cap.
Advertisement Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Hi robsteve, Take a look here Sensor Cleaning gone seriously wrong. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted December 28, 2012 Share #22 Posted December 28, 2012 That one. It's called "Eclipse", not "Eclipse 2", whatever difference there may be. Where can I get a professional cleaning in munich? Leica does not seem to do it, they just send it to Solms. Lightwrangler Posted December 28, 2012 Author Share #23 Posted December 28, 2012 http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sensorreinigung+M%C3%BCnchen Nice gimmick, Jaap, but you should have read what Google brings up: Nought! Anyway, I will try to soak the blot - which is btw very visible to the eye - with Isopropanol tomorrow and see what happens. Can't really get worse. The camera has to go to Leica anyway next year, because they request the cam to adjust my misfocussing 50 lux ASPH. So if nothing helps, Solms should have a look at this themselves. Lightwrangler Posted December 28, 2012 Author Share #26 Posted December 28, 2012 Ummm... Calumet, Zennsfoto, Dinkel and several others Don't be confused. I thank your for your efforts, but I know all these, but still don't know if they would touch a Leica. Some don't. That was my question. Anyway, Solms is - what- a three-hour drive from Munich ? Yeah, 3 hours, one direction. And just in case of low traffic. Meaning 8 hours on the way just to get my M9 cleaned. May sound like a nice trip for some, for me it sounds like a horrible journey on german autobahn. I better send it by post then Mike

Lightwrangler Posted December 28, 2012 Author Share #29 Posted December 28, 2012 Ok, Leica just contacted me - very fast btw and very friendly! After having had a look on my speck-pictures they suspect the sensor layer came loose and offer exchange free of charge. Anyway, replacement parts (obviously the sensor) will be available not before beginning/mid-january. Mike Side note: Leica says they use Isopropanol for sensor cleaning and they had the same issue I had with Eclipse. Obviously there already was a small spot where the sensor came loose and where the cleaning solvent infiltrated and spread under the top layer. lupico Posted June 12, 2013 Share #31 Posted June 12, 2013 I can`t imagine there is a problem using Eclipse on the new M? It is not much more than methanol. Someone at Leica told me they also use a mix of one part pure isopropyl alcohol and one part pure acetone. You have to be careful not to touch any plastic or sensitive parts (other than the sensor cover glass) though as acetone is very aggressive. See my article on sensor cleaning if you are interested on lupico.com. But there probably are more than a hundred different ways to clean a sensor. And if you are unsure - rather have it done professionally.
