Etruscello Posted December 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd appreciate any advice about a problem I'm having with my 5 years old M8 and what I should do about it, if anything. It's been flawless for 5 years. When I would turn it on, it would come up quickly with its top indicator showing the battery level and number of shots left. Suddenly today, when I turn it on, nothing happens until I also depress the shutter button 1/2 way -- then the battery and shot indicators come up as usual. It will not operate now until I activate it by dpressing the shutter button. I tried a fresh battery to no avail. It does operate as well as usual. Have any of you had this problem? Can it be repaired? Should it be repaired? Should I leave well enough alone, or may this be the beginning of a more serious problem that needs attention now? Thank you for any advice. jaapv Posted December 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 27, 2012 It is a known problem with no reported further consequences. If you can live with it, I would leave it be.
designed Posted December 27, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 27, 2012 I had the same issue on my M8. It's quite easy to learn to half press the shutter when turning the camera on. I shot this way for about two years, no big deal. In the end, I had it fixed as I had been warned that it would only get worse and I started to have problems with the camera refusing to take photos at all in some conditions. I think it was around 2-300€ to have the switch replaced.
