Nice to see this, would love a Paul Smith X2! If it weren't for those pesky medical bills...
robert blu Posted January 13, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 13, 2013 I have to say that when I saw first time the Paul Smith colors I was really upset, and I did not like this special edition at all. But sometimes we have, at least I have to learn to take myself not too seriously and I have to admit that this edition has a special kind of appeal! Colors are part of our lives... robert PS: but I'll keep my x1....
mongrelnomad Posted January 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2013 I've been considering an X2 for a long time (I have an M9 and an MM but with a young daughter, find that I am sorely missing a carry-anywhere, one-hand - read autofocus - camera). All the compacts I've used before have been high-quailty film cameras (Minolta TC-1, Ricoh GR-1), so I've never been a particular fan of sacrificing quality. Tried a few more recent cameras (Fuji X100, most recently - sold after a few weeks) and found them more frustrating than rewarding. Never really bit the bullet on an X2 though until I got an eMail today from Paul Smith in London saying they had one left. Well... should be here in a few days. Let's see how we get on! mongrelnomad Posted January 26, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 26, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Julian, my sincere apologies! when I first read this post I thought you were just another rich guy with more money than sense...but I had a quick look at you Flickr page, and well I saw a nice set of images, and if you want a very colorful tool to make them, well who am I to judge! goodluck, enjoy! Thanks for the compliment Ivan! Funny that there's so much obsession with 'stealth' here on the forum, and in the Leica mythology. Truthfully, I've found that the less inconspicuous you try to be while shooting street scenes, the easier it is to go undetected. The world tends to pick up on people trying to disappear much more than those overtly doing what they're doing - the guy with the blacked-out camera and trenchcoat is going to seem much more suspicious than the guy with the broad grin, the overtly coloured camera and the friendly, open demeanour. In actual fact, I think a camera like the Paul Smith - a bright, open, friendly camera - would probably be the best street accompaniment there could be! That said, i doubt any photos I take with it will ever end up in the public domain. This will be a family-only camera - leaving the Ms for the street. And I can't wait! (It's due to arrive tomorrow - wish me luck!)
mongrelnomad Posted January 27, 2013 Share #8 Posted January 27, 2013 Well the camera arrived and it's been unboxed. First impressions: it looks great. The photos really don't sufficiently emphasise the deepness and lustre of the colours. As a camera? Well I've only taken about a dozen photos so far, none of which I've checked on the large screen. The AF isn't nearly as fast as I'd like and fails to track even small movements. This can be compensated for (of course) using basic photographic skills - stop down and increase the ISO. Which begs the question: how good is the high ISO? Something we'll soon find out...

Overgaard Posted February 9, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted February 9, 2013 Congratulations Rudi, It is a way more sexy camera in teal life than when it first appeared on a screen at Photokina. Lots of nice details, including the leather strap and box it comes in.
