Guest stnami Posted July 23, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 23, 2006 Phillip, try 2007 for the 25mm and I think it is a f2. the last I read on the pana site,
philipotto Posted July 23, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 23, 2006 According to this, 2007 it is for the 25mm F1.4. If Leica comes out with a body for the 4/3 system with a real vewfinder à la digital CL, it will make for a very compelling kit. Welcome, dear visitor! philipotto Posted July 23, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 23, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) What does it mean when a lens is labled Macro? How many stops is OIS supposed to provide?
davephoto Posted July 23, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 23, 2006 14-150! that's one heck a of a monster 'compromise' lens.
davephoto Posted July 23, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 23, 2006 i would also add that after seeing the iso comparison photos, i would disagree with the reviewer's assessment that "Nevertheless, it's pretty clear that noise is not too bad up to and including iso 800". the iso 800 photo looks pretty bad to me. i hope the final release version will do better. rob_rob Posted July 23, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 23, 2006 According to the author, that was the release version. And I agree, ISO 800 or maybe even 400 look unacceptable to me (at least under reasonably normal shooting conditions). But, as far as optical quality goes, I got no complaints. kobold Posted July 23, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 23, 2006 Phillip, Re. "macro": AFAIK, it means that the lens is capable of reproduction of an object in the 1:2 all the way to 1:1 (life size) range. In practise, this means that such lenses can focus in the few inches–twelve inches range, rather than having a minimum focus distance of (say) eighteen inches. and as for the 'OIS', Canon says three stops and I think everyone else does, too. To some extent it's a marketing claim, but in my experience with the 'L' zooms that I have with this feature, you can rely on two stops. That can really get you out of trouble sometimes. hth, kit
supperman Posted July 24, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 24, 2006 How effective OIS/IS/AS is still depends on how steady the photographer is. And it is also more effective for longer lenses than for shorter ones.
