philipoz Posted December 25, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I would like to buy a wide angle but don't want to bother with an external viewfinder. Is this combo working well? Voigtlander 25mm + M4P. Do I need an external viewfinder or is it alright to use the 28mm frame of my M4P? And also, will the 28mm frame be choosen by the camera for this lense? Thanks for your answers. Philippe
Advertisement Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Hi philipoz, Take a look here Voigtlander 25mm + M4P without external viewfinder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted December 25, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 25, 2012 The 25mm Skopar is an excellent lens. You need a 25mm viewfinder unless you can guess what the framing will be beyond the 28mm framelines.
madNbad Posted December 26, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 26, 2012 If you're comfortable with "close enough" framing you can get away without using the external viewfinder with the 25. Since you'll be using the scale focusing you can get away without the external finder.
Farkle-Mpls Posted December 26, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 26, 2012 As others have commented, it will be inexact but it will work. No one has answered your question about which frame lines are brought up when the lens in mounted. I'm curious about that as well. Does anyone know? madNbad Posted December 26, 2012 Share #5 Posted December 26, 2012 The 25 Skopar is a LTM lens and depending on which M mount adapter is installed will determine which frame lines.
earleygallery Posted December 26, 2012 Share #6 Posted December 26, 2012 There are 2 versions, an LTM mount 'snapshot' which isn't rangefinder coupled but comes with the viewfinder and has click stops for 3 focus points. There is also an M mount version which is RF coupled, but doesn't ship with the viewfinder.
philipoz Posted December 26, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted December 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for your replies. I am thinking of buying the M version not the LTM so the lense will be coupled with the rangfinder. I am still wondering if the 28mm frame lines will be brought. Cheers
joeswe Posted December 26, 2012 Share #8 Posted December 26, 2012 the CV 25 brings up the 35mm frame line in my m2, so it should bring up the 35/135 combo in your m4-p.
therbert Posted December 27, 2012 Share #9 Posted December 27, 2012 I've found that the 0.58 viewfinder in an M6TTL works quite well for 25mm lenses. In saying that, I'll add that the 0.72 finder doesn't work so well for me to visualize the field of a 25mm lens. I'll always use an external finder with a 0.72 Leica and even with the 0.68 (I think) finder in the M9. Tom
nikau Posted December 27, 2012 Share #10 Posted December 27, 2012 I agree with Therbert. The 25mm CV LTM works really well on my .58 M6ttl. The very edges of the viewfinder are close enough to what you'll get on film. On any .72 M (and the digitals) you really need an external finder.
