Writerboy Posted December 24, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it possible to capture images of the Aurora with a V Lux compact? If so what settings? We're traveling light and will be in Tromso this winter...
Advertisement Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Hi Writerboy, Take a look here V-Lux and northern lights photography. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted December 24, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2012 Having used a V Lux 2 as one of my cameras in Antarctica I would guess you'd go tp manual focus, move it to infinity (manual focus is a pain on the V-Lux), and experiment with exposure. Guest D-Lux 6 Posted February 23, 2013 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2013 I'm curious as to how the Aurora photography may have turned out. I've been in Alaska for 10yrs off and on, and have seen (and photographed) the Aurora on a couple of occasions. I'm in Southeast AK now, and between its more southern latitude and constant, heavy cloud cover, we don't see them much here. But in my time in Anchorage, they would pop up now and again. I was using a Digilux 1 at the time, and would use a tripopd and shutter priority mode with a long exposure, but it would require an ISO of 400, which in that camera was very noisy. So while I can say that I captured them, I'm anxious to try my hand at them again with my trusty tripod and my D-Lux 6.
