comapedrosa Posted July 21, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know this has been discussed ad nauseam in the old forum, but somehow I can't find it (I thought it would still be available for search???). Anyhow, I thought it was time to get a polarizer for my D2 (I'd prefer the fitting Leica accessory, as opposed to a step-up/down ring option). I'd be very interested in hearing from people who have experience with it, and maybe even a couple of sample picture. Thanks a lot, C
Advertisement Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Hi comapedrosa, Take a look here Polarizer for D2? (can't access old forum for search). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
comapedrosa Posted July 21, 2006 Author Share #2 Posted July 21, 2006 Ooops, here's another question: how do I even find one?
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 21, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 21, 2006 I obtained my polarizer from my Leica dealer. There is no such accessory for the D2 in the Leica catalog, but a polarizer of the correct size is available elsewhere in the catalog. They are also available from other filter manufacturers (in fact, the Leica one may be made by a filter maker). I will see if I can find my before/after pix that were posted on the old Forum. However, it makes the usual, substantial difference. There is, of course, a color shift. I believe this is the normal action of a polarizer for color images. Making colors more saturated is some sort of color shift.
imported_peter_m Posted July 21, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 21, 2006 Heliopan makes a slim polarizer for the D2/LC1. I got mine from KB Camera. Peter
comapedrosa Posted July 22, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted July 22, 2006 Bill and Peter, thank you very much for (as usual) very helpful information. The Helopian filter sounds exactly like what I was looking for. I assume the meter copes with the polarizer without problems? I'd still be interested if someone could upload a photo or two taken with the D2+polarizer (and with a yellow or Skylight filter too for that matter). Thanks
jp_photos Posted July 22, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 22, 2006 The Heliopan filter is getting hard to find. I ordered one from Site Map a few weeks ago and received the following reply: Sorry we are out of the item(s) listed below with expected ship date. =================================================================== (1) h69cpltmc Heliopan SH-PMC 69mm Slim Circular Polarizer Expected Ship Date: 7/10/2006 Still have not received it yet. Note that there are 2 69mm polarizing filters from heliopan, and the slim filter that works best with D2 is the SH-PMC Slim. Beware of the other model because there were reports that it was rubbing up against the lens. --Jason
cbretteville Posted July 22, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the slim one from Heliopan. Have been using it for a year and a half now. Works great and no measuring issues with the D2. Actually the best pola I've ever used. - Carl
