My S2 together with the attached 70mm lens were stolen by burglars yesterday.

I'd be grateful if the LUF community kept their eyes open.

LEICA S2, serial number 3801067

LEICA SUMMARIT-S 1:2,5/70 mm ASPH.,serial number 4105008

Happy season holidays to everybody!

Hi Georg,

it happened in Lausanne, Switzerland. I've already informed the Leica Switzerland people.

I would send a letter (rather than email) to Solms, as well as the other distributors and as many dealers as you wish to (they are all listed on the Leica website).

I wouldn't take it for granted that someone in Switzerland is going to do the running about for you!

A friend had his M9 and 35 lux stolen last year and he recovered it . The most important item was having clean proof of ownership in the form of a bill of sale /invoice . Most stolen items are sold to at least one middle man . In this case the thief "pawned " the camera and the lens for $50 ! The pawn shop then put it on eBay .

The owner went to the pawn shop as a buyer and asked to take a few pictures with the camera to insure it was in good order . He took a shot of the seller and then keep the card which now had the serial number in the file .

He took all his evidence to the closest police station and after considerable debate ...they went and recovered his camera and lens .

There is software available that will scan the internet for photographs taken with your serial number .

You have to >>(1) find it (2)prove you own it(3)prove someone has it and (4) convince the police to retrieve it .

Thanks for all the good advice.

I would also assume that the camera went across the border to France, so thanks for having a look at Summilux, Stephan.

Proof a purchase etc. is of course all available.

Does any one know the name of the software that scans the internet for photographs taken with a specific camera/serial number?

Jochim

I wonder if getting the camera engraved would act as a deterrent, like with the ala carte program? But will reduce the resale I suppose...?

silly, I guess : if a burglar is going to mug you, its not going to stop half way when he looks at the engraving.

Reduce the resale by a lot, but then again, very few know what they are stealing. I've seen M cameras being sold at cash converters by shady people at 100 euros each...... the cash converter guy KNEW what he was buying.. he got pissed at me, I called the Police on the spot.
