egibaud Posted March 22, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted March 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was going to buy one... but I ended buying a Luigi's case with a grip in it, and it feels perfect to me. As long as you don't mind using a case of course! Â If you get the case, and feel you might want to use a tripod, DO NOT FORGET to order the tripod screw too. gravastar Posted March 22, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted March 22, 2007 Use the sling & love it. It's less obtrusive, lighter and much more stable. Â I've just ordered one and some other goodies. I find that the tube of the handgrip isn't long enough to grip with all my fingers, the middle finger is neither on or off the grip. It's also slippery and has little "tac". You can't mount or unmount the 135 Elmarit with goggles unless you remove the grip first, mount the lens and then replace the grip. I'm hoping the Sling will be a good alternative. Â Â Bob. The only time I had a problem mounting the 135 was when I started the mounting with the red dot beyond the lock button. But if you line those 2 things lined up the lens goes on. I wonder if there are different versions of the 135 with removeable and fixed goggles. On my lens part of the goggles overlaps the grip by about 1/2 inch preventing mounting. It's a Canadian Leitz Elmarit 1:2.8/135 # 299721x with tripod socket. Underneath next to the socket there is a recessed screw which looks as if it locks the goggles in place, so maybe they're removeable. The lens has excellent performance on the M8, also I can hand hold at 1/30 and still get sharp results! Â I have short fingers and find the surface of the camera and grip doesn't give me a good purchase. I asked CameraLeather.com Custom camera leather and leatherette if they had a "Griptac" option for the M8. They are waiting for a camera to become available as a pattern and will keep me informed. I don't have my 135 with me but it is also made in Canada and has the tripod socket but the eyes are removeable from the top. There are 2 small screws and 2 pins next to the screws that align and hold the eyes in place. The mount for the eyes is incorperated into, part of, the lens mount. So this is why Leica can not code this lens. Also my 135 has a segmented and ribbed focusing ring. Some of the newer versions have a NON-segmented focusing ring with ribs all the way around. With is yours.
