Best Tim Hi Tim, If you shoot something where a white wall appears in the corner (just to pick an example) then you'll see it. You can overlap the screw with the ink, it just takes some fussing. And as you say (unlike what I posted) it is smeary on the right, sharp on the left. Sailor Ted Posted March 22, 2007 Share #25 Posted March 22, 2007 Let us hope the low resolution of viewing Jpegs over the Internet on computer monitors does not lower the performance of our lens options to that of the "lowest common denominator." One of my favorite lenses for my M8 is the CV 12mm HOWEVER when I make prints shot with my Leica glass and compare them to shots from CV glass the Leica images have a presence, detail, and "three dimensionality," and dynamic range of color CV glass can not match. Good as the CV glass is, it cannot compare to that of Leica glass where prints are concerned at most focal lengths. That said having the focal length you want to shoot trumps glass that may have higher IQ but the wrong focal length for what you are shooting. It is also fair to comment that Leica glass is EXPENSIVE- VERY. For Leica's sake they need to find a way to lower the cost of glass and aim for higher volume of sales that the M8 can deliver given the expanded market for DRF vs. film bodies. I doubt seriously that Leica makes the same margin on M8 bodies as they do on glass. As good as Leica's glass is (first rate), they may price them selves out of business or into obscurity due to the excellent nature of CV glass and given the fact Leica's strong suites are harder to quantify in the medium most digital photogs base their buying decisions on- namely comparisons like these. I have followed your 35mm tribulations with some concern, and thought the 24 mm Elmarit was free of problems [and at these prices, less than perfect is unacceptable]. I am still awaiting delivery of my pre-purchased M8 and my first lens; you guessed - a 24mm Elmarit. If I had any money left, I might have booked myself back into the M8 trauma ward. I saw a thread here recently about someone who's 24 elmarit was less sharp on the left than the right and so I had a look at mine and found that it is sometimes true BUT it's not very pronounced, I never noticed it before I got paranoid and I have lots of nice sharp shots from the lens. A lot of the Viareggio series on my website were shot on it if you want to reassure yourself! I probably never would have noticed if it hadn't been mentioned here.
