Guest Bob Eaton Posted March 21, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm happily using an Epson R-D1 fitted with a Tri-Elmar 28-35-50 and shall continue doing so until I'm satisfied that the M8 is sufficiently roadworthy to be worth what it costs. I like the idea of adding a Tri-Elmar 16-18-21 and a Universal Wide-Angle Viewfinder M to use on the Epson body. Is this a good idea, or are there negative implications that so far escape me ? Advertisement Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Hi Guest Bob Eaton, Take a look here Epson R-D1 with Leica Tri-Elmars. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nf3996 Posted March 23, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 23, 2007 Although the 16-18-21mm Tri-Elmar will fit on an Epson R-D1, the wide-angle viewfinder-M will not show the correct field of view for those focal lengths. The R-D1 has a 'crop' factor of x1.5, whereas the M8 is only x1.3, so 16-18-21mm on the R-D1 give the same field of view as 24-27-32mm or thereabouts on a 35mm film camera. The wide-angle viewfinder-M gives the field of view for the lens on an M8, where the field of view equates to 21-24-28mm on a 35mm camera. But by using separate viewfinders for 24mm, 28mm and 35mm (film equivalents), you could approximate the field of view of the 16-18-21 on an R-D1. tom0511 Posted March 23, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 23, 2007 The 21mm/2.8asph vignettes more on the rd1 than it does on the M8. The question might be how much the WATE vignettes on the rd1.
marknorton Posted March 23, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 23, 2007 Well, I've just tried the WATE on the the R-D1 it and the good news is that vignetting is not an issue. It's there but not excessive. Quite impressed with the images, actually, having not touched the R-D1 much since the M8 landed. Â So, very workable, for a finder think about the Leica finder (set to 24 for 16mm, 28 for 18mm and look for another finder in the range 30 - 35mm for 21mm on the WATE. Â I think the two TEs plus a slightly longer lens like the 75/2 or 90/2.8 or 90/4 make a good package.
