Hello to all. I'm new to the forum took delivery of my X2 about a month ago. I love almost everything about the X2 and am now hooked on Leica

Here the rub...even being careful I smudged the front element. I did some very very careful cleaning and it appears to have removed the "purple" coating just in the very small area of the smudge.

I shot several hundred photos with the smudge and the photos appear unaffected. But the smudged look ticks me off ...any advice?

Should this have happened ? I'm 100% sure the smudge was caused by the natural oils in my finger.

Thanks to all for the wealth of information on this forum.

Hi, it depends on what you call careful cleaning.

The smudge is quite likely some oily residue from the old smudge.

The coating is quite tough.

For cleaning I use for years now a piece of the polystyrene foam the white packaging material, which you can break to get the clean ,virgin surface to work with.

Since it holds electrostatic charge, it also picks and hold dust particles.

Common rubbing alcohol from pharmacy or grocery store often contains a bit of oil to prevent drying the skin. Avoid it. Test it first. Pour few droplets on glass surface, let it evaporate and check for residue left on glass surface.

Lens wipes , those in little packets seem to work well for me. They are also soaked with alcohol, which could attack some other materials, like glue etc.

Better test it first.
