morffin Posted March 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having problems getting my M8 and 5D to time sync. Canon has the year as 2 digits...Leica as 4....so programs like IVIEW list all the Camon RAW files ( 07 ) then the Leica files ( 2007) It's becoming a real hassle editing when I'm shooting with both cameras..Im used to sorting the files by capture date. anyone out there figure out how to match the two? Advertisement Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Hi morffin, Take a look here Time stamp M8 and 5D. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted March 21, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2007 Give Canon a call and give them hell Seriously, since none of us are taking digital pictures in the year 7, I would drop iView a note and ask them to fix the sorting.
cbretteville Posted March 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 21, 2007 Weird. Maybe there is an option to set the date format on the 5D. Don't have access to files from one, but I looked at a 20D raw and the exif lists dates as specified in Exif v2.2 i.e., like "2007:03:11 23:05:20" (same, btw, as the M8). Programmers tend to reuse code and this bit would be in a library that someone just used for newer models. I don't use iView, but can you tell it where it should get its date/time info from? To see whats encoded in the file, open it and look at the file info in PS and see what it says in ther "date time" filed on the "camera data 1" tab. Or look at the meta data using your raw converter. Could be a bug in iView. - C
morffin Posted March 21, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted March 21, 2007 Thanks for the help. It does the same thing in Bridge as well. This is kiling me in editing. I'll see if Canon can help.
AlanJW Posted March 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 21, 2007 I just looked at some 5D images of mine in Bridge and the date format is mm/dd/yyyy. As an example, some I did Saturday were listed as 3/17/2007. I have not tried a format with the year coming first.
PhilFarber Posted March 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 21, 2007 Sorry a slight twist on this subject. How are you sync'ing the times? I sync 5 Nikons by hitting the set button and it sets the seconds to 00... making it easy to sync them. I noticed when syncing the M8 the seconds don't reset to zero when you press set. Not fun to sync this to other cameras. It would be nice if new firmware could give you the seconds read out and allow you to set it to 00 with the push of the set button. I am starting to use 2 m8 bodies on jobs along with my other shooters. This could turn into a real pain at edit time. Anybody have a simple solution, that I am missing? morffin Posted March 21, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted March 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) it seems to have worked. Changed the view options on Bridge and the year is in 2 digits for the RAW and DNG files...thanks!
AlanJW Posted March 21, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 21, 2007 it seems to have worked. Changed the view options on Bridge and the year is in 2 digits for the RAW and DNG files...thanks! I thought the 2 digits on the Canon was the problem vs. 4 digits on the Leica. did you make them both 2 digits? Was it just a matterof telling Bridge how to display. Since I too (and perhaps others) have 5D and M8, the subject is of interest.
