Vulcanite

Repairing small bits of vulcanite is fairly easy. First superglue around the edges of the main bit that is left to stop the rot spreading. Then use a two part black resin putty called Milliput

The two parts of this putty are simply rolled together to form a dough, then work it into the area that has fallen off. Use a damp cocktail stick to smooth it out, then copy the texture of the vulcanite with the end of the cocktail stick. When up against edges like the baseplate use a sharp knife to make a hard neat edge. It takes a few hours to dry rock hard, so you have plenty of time to be artistic and get it right. When dry it looks very close to the real thing if you copy the texture well enough. You can buy black Milliput from a good model shop or via Ebay.
