Advertisement Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Hi dennersten, Take a look here Vulcanite. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tobey bilek Posted December 8, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2012 Sadly no. But if you had been covering with McGuires vinyl and and rubber preservative ( auto supply store) it would still be ok. Rubber rots. Vulcanizing is the heat process to bond the rubber to the camera frame.
jc_braconi Posted December 8, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2012 If you have the piece you can glue it with a liquid neoprene glue, when I need I use the one made by Pattex it will repair and stop the process... in that place
250swb Posted December 8, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2012 Repairing small bits of vulcanite is fairly easy. First superglue around the edges of the main bit that is left to stop the rot spreading. Then use a two part black resin putty called Milliput Milliput The two parts of this putty are simply rolled together to form a dough, then work it into the area that has fallen off. Use a damp cocktail stick to smooth it out, then copy the texture of the vulcanite with the end of the cocktail stick. When up against edges like the baseplate use a sharp knife to make a hard neat edge. It takes a few hours to dry rock hard, so you have plenty of time to be artistic and get it right. When dry it looks very close to the real thing if you copy the texture well enough. You can buy black Milliput from a good model shop or via Ebay. Steve Just to add that in this place I use adhesive tape on the body in several lyers to reach the width of the original vulcanite before applying the compound.
