OK so I bought a "mint" Contax 85mm f1.4 Planar MM and, when it arrives Wednesday, will begin my first foray into manual photography on my L1. (And yes, I got an adapter as well!)

Any advice and support will be greatly appreciated.

....wear clean undies.....daily.

...and look after your parents...

Other than that....you should be fine.

I find it helps to zoom-in fully to focus then zoom-out as necessary to compose (which presumes, of course, that there's no focus shift and you're using a zoom lens). I've also found using the "manual-focus assist" is helpful in low-contrast situations and with a bit of practice, can even be done handheld provided you don't mind using the LCD instead of the viewfinder.

If you otherwise like the lens, get a focusing screen from katzoptical.. I just got mine and it makes as easy to use manual lenses as it always way - ha ha. works great.

Hi Bo,

I'm very interested in the focusing screen and send the guys a mail. But does it works like a regular split focusing screen? My last view thru such a thing was with my old A1 in the last century.

Would you recommend this invest of 150U$ ??

Cheers
