Advertisement Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Hi Inspector Clouseau, Take a look here Black DR. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted November 14, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2012 Very nice and desirable item, indeed... I'm curios to see how much it will fetch... the basis price is very appealing...
Inspector Clouseau Posted November 15, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted November 15, 2012 I checked to see if the seller was correct about the same lens selling for €16,000 back in 2007 ...... and yes ... it actually did sell for that much .... but that was at Westlicht .... Ebay may not pull in the same class of buyers.
luigi bertolotti Posted November 15, 2012 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2012 The 2007 item was indeed in superb conditions, and with a very old s/n : https://www.westlicht-auction.com/index.php?id=94170&acat=94170&offset=2&_ssl=off To be sincere, I do not understand why it is baptized as "prototype".... in Leitz lingo, "prototypes" are preproduction items, often with some odd detail and , usually, with s/n outside the normal range ("0000..." lenses or "5x.xxx.xxx" lenses) or within small "intermediate" batches (like the Summarit 50 1,4 -> Summilux : http://www.westlicht-auction.com/index.php?id=215747&acat=215747&offset=1&_ssl=off). The above DR Summicron is a rare black item, within normal production batch (not even the first one)
Inspector Clouseau Posted November 18, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted November 18, 2012 Yes ... I was curious as to why Westlicht called it a Prototype as well. Looks like the seller on eBay chose to call his a prototype also. But in the sellers description he verifies that the Black DR he is selling is from the forth run of the lens .... Maybe people just like that word "prototype" ...... I can handle the word "prototype" even though its not. The word I hate the most that I see on eBay is "Minty" ..... even if I like the auction ... I wont bid on it if I see that word "MINTY" .... Regardless of the words that are used ... it looks like the auction is doing well .... its at $4050.00 USD now .... and it still has 4 days to go. I believe this Black DR will gather around 10,000.00 USD .......... Look at the link below .... its a Black 50mm Summilux (Knurled) that sold for $8000.00 USD .... I think the Black DR is more rare and desired than the Summilux below. Thoughts? luigi bertolotti Posted November 19, 2012 Share #6 Posted November 19, 2012 ....a Black 50mm Summilux (Knurled) that sold for $8000.00 USD .... I think the Black DR is more rare and desired than the Summilux below. Thoughts? Black Paint Leica Leitz Summilux 50mm 1 4 1964 Hood Caps M3 M4 M5 M6 M8 M9 Lens | eBay I agree... the black Summilux looks to be in better shape, and is undoubtly rare, too : but the DR is imho "more sexy" as a collectible... (don't remember if some Lux 50 black AND in screw mount do exist...)
philipus Posted November 21, 2012 Share #7 Posted November 21, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Though it is not the DR, it may be interesting to know that LP Foto auctions three BP Summicron 50s on 8 December (www.lpfoto.se).
Inspector Clouseau Posted November 22, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted November 22, 2012 You Know .... I was thinking ... The Black Summicron DR seems to be stuck at $4000USD for many days now .... at that price I may very well try to win it myself and then in the near future allow Westlicht sell it for me ..... Im sure to make a coin or two. Now I just have to sneak 4 or 5 thousand dollars past the misses.
