marknorton Posted March 19, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 19, 2007 Luca, welcome to the forum. Â What colour are those jeans meant to be? That's the problem with the M8, we cannot tell whether that's the true colour or they're meant to be black. IR contamination affects not just materials but skin colours and vegetation and we'll see more examples of weak greens as we move into spring and summer in the northern hemisphere. Â Assuming you had WB set to auto or daylight, I think this is an IR issue, not WB. It's in mixed lighting and especially tungsten that AWB falls apart. erl Posted March 19, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 19, 2007 Luca, Â My limited experience so far has demonstrated to me that all colours seem to be affected by the IR contamination, and to varying degrees under different types of light. Last week. I accidentally left the IR filter off my 24mm (it was on the 90mm) and was appalled by the poor colour rendition. I just hope Leica get my extra two free filters to me soon. Swapping filters constantly is fatal. Â It can be said that daylight photography without the filter is OK, but when you use the filter there is a noticeable difference = improvement. jaapv Posted March 19, 2007 Share #7  Posted March 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) ok was not sure that is IR problem now that i have the confirm, i must to use my IR filter...thanks Luca  I am one of those that have strong objections to the use of so-called "protective" and UV filters. However, my lenses that are used on the M8 have their 486 filters virtually super-glued to them. I see improvements both in nearly all of my colour photo's, and in my B&W too. Although there are two schools of thought for Black and White. One is that the IR contamination gives a flatter contrast curve, which helps with tonality, the other is that sharpness is improved by removing the out of focus IR veil. Both opinions are true and it is a matter of personal choice. As for colour, when I look at your shot I see not only the obvious false colour in the jeans and the poor whitebalance in the skin tones, the greens have too much yellow in them as well, indicating overall IR contamination. IR affects all colours.
