Joachim123 Posted November 12, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 12, 2012 Fantastic as always. I have tried to photograph hawks in my area. They are very shy and quick. You seem to have it down to a science.

wildlightphoto Posted November 14, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted November 14, 2012 And now for the rest of the story.... when the hawk first landed my camera was set up for hand-held flight shots of the geese: 280mm f/4 APO + 2x APO-Extender-R, shoulder stock, no monopod. I made a few grab shots of the hawk with the camera set up this way, then while fumbling trying to attach the monopod in the confined space inside the car, another car pulled up and spooked the bird. The driver of the other car then pulled up next to my open window, brandishing his camera, and told me how he'd gotten a great action photo of the hawk (as it was fleeing), then asked "what are you shooting?" meaning what camera equipment was I using. There are very few moments when I'd rather be 'shooting' with non-photographic equipment, but this was one of them. I restrained myself and replied "a camera". I forgot to add 'dammit'. Him, thinking I'd said "a Canon": "1D4?". Why is it the biggest ignoramuses have big white lenses?
