Advertisement Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Hi masjah, Take a look here Second Seaside Challenge (Whitby UK) Saturday 13/4/13. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted November 23, 2012 Share #22 Posted November 23, 2012 If so, I hope the locals didn't try to eat him - we're tough old beggars up here! ... nothing inedible though after a nice warm 'bath' with some carrots and onions I shouldn't think. masjah Posted January 8, 2013 Author Share #25 Posted January 8, 2013 It looks so far that we would have a smallish (but of course highly select!) gathering that would just about have a critical mass. On that basis Marilyn and I will pop up to Whitby and recce for somewhere suitable to meet up. More detals to follow. Please say if you have changed your provisional plans. So far, possible participants (and spouses?) are: Myself (+ Marilyn) Andy (+ Ann?) Steve Pete Tom (+ Eileen) ejd (John IIRC from the days when names were attached to posts?) Brian Paul Bill (Allsopp; possible?)
andybarton Posted January 8, 2013 Share #26 Posted January 8, 2013 John If work duties can be organised there will be three of us (with a total of eight legs). If there's any chance of finding a pub with an outside eating area that will allow a dog while we're eating etc that would be excellent. No pressure :-) If you can't, they will have to sit outside while we're indoors ;-) If Ann has to work, I'll be on my own. Many thanks!

(Remember the hotel on the south side of Scarborough, not that far down the coast from Whitby, that completely collapsed with the cliff?)
masjah Posted January 24, 2013 Author Share #29 Posted January 24, 2013 I've just come out of hospital for a knee replacement, so M and I will be recce-ing at Whitby a bit nearer the actual date. Worry not!
farnz Posted January 24, 2013 Share #30 Posted January 24, 2013 John, I hope your surgery was a complete success and that your recuperation is quick and comfortable. Best wishes, Pete.

spylaw4 Posted January 25, 2013 Share #33 Posted January 25, 2013 +2 on the good wishes! Glad you can stop limping around! In my experience, once it settles down the improvement is dramatic, provided (as I told you) you keep up with the physio exercises to strengthen it! masjah Posted January 25, 2013 Author Share #34 Posted January 25, 2013 Thanks everyone for your good wishes. There are some famous steps from the harbour to the Abbey, and I fully intend to negotiate these apace! Brian, as ever, thanks for your advice. Even now I do the exercises assiduously - I'm aware that the ultimate range of movement of the new joint depends on this!
stunsworth Posted January 25, 2013 Share #35 Posted January 25, 2013 I've just come out of hospital for a knee replacement, so M and I will be recce-ing at Whitby a bit nearer the actual date. Worry not! John, metal detectors at airports will never be the same <grin>. Here's hoping you make a quick recovery.
masjah Posted January 25, 2013 Author Share #36 Posted January 25, 2013 Thanks Steve for your good wishes. I'm not sure what kind I've got - I've got to find out for sure, but one member of staff suggested that they might even be using ceramic on ceramic, as I am relatively young, in which case no probs!. I'll find out at my post op outpatients in a few weeks.
spylaw4 Posted January 26, 2013 Share #37 Posted January 26, 2013 If it is metal, you'll find that at most airports (at least the ones I've been through) it doesn't register on the detector. I've only had a "bleep" once IIRC - but I can't remember where - Singapore I think.

Best wishes, Tom

lanetomlane Posted February 21, 2013 Share #40 Posted February 21, 2013 Hi John Although we were really looking forward to your event I'm afraid we aren't going to be able to make it, as I shall be away from the 7th to the 20th in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam. Unfortunately I was born in the wrong bed and have to work for a living. Hope the gathering is a great success and that the weather is kind to you. _____________________ Cheers, Tom
