M6 versions

I was never very fond of the M6 ttl. The M6 classic is a very, very good camera.

Coming from a classic M6, I was skeptical about getting an M6 TTL. I am a shooter over a fondler or collector, use my camera's every day professionally.

I now have two M6 TTL's with the flare free finder's. The improvement of using the TTL shutter dial over the MP /M6 classic style one is huge for me, it is *much* faster and more intuitive to use with the dial traveling the same direction as the arrows, the action is super fast with the size and still does not get knocked out of adjustment if rubbed on something.

The TTL flash feature is awesome with the SF-20 /SF-24!! I get stunning images at a flash compensation factor of minus 2-3 stops.

In my professional opinion, for making the best images you can for the money, the M6 TTL is a real shooter's camera.

Any M6 is great, there are none to avoid.

I would endorse KM-25's comments, but add that the M6TTL has a slightly more sensitive light meter, or should that be slightly extended range? Anyway, I own and work with both and neither have missed a beat in 5 years. The M7 is even better, but you did specifically ask about the M6's. Yes! they are great.

I also strongly recommend the M6TTLs; I have two (a 0.58 and a 0.72) after many years of using meterless M cameras. The larger shutter speed dial, which turns in the direction of the meter arrows, is a plus, as is the ability to use TTL flash, even if you use it only rarely. One camera is from an early production run, the other from one of the last; I have not noticed any flare issues in either.

I use 2 M6TTL's as well, a .72 and a .85. I went with them over M7's at the time as they had a "proven" history and the 7 seemed a bit of a departure from that. I always thought that I'd use them for a few years and then "upgrade", but I'm so used to them now I can't see a good reason to.

As mentioned above, with an SF20 or 24 and a little compensation dialed in, their flash performance is excellent.

Another vote for the M6TTL.

I originally had an early Solms M6 (< 200xxx) that had some set-up issues, new out of the box. I eventually replaced that body with a mint M6 Wetzlar, and was so pleased with the general fit and finish of the camera, that I bought another (one black, one chrome).

I would recommend to anyone that if you can find a really clean Wetzlar, they are well worth considering.
