TDR Posted March 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know if one can use a Nikon SB 800 Speedlight on an M8? I've ordered the Leica flash, but it hasn't come in yet, and anyway I'd like to have something with more power for certain types of work. My Nikon D200 appears to have the same flash shoe as the M8. I saw a reference in LFI to using a Nikon SC 17 flash cable, but I'm not sure why I would need a cable, rather than some kind of adapter. Thanks. -Tim R
Advertisement Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Hi TDR, Take a look here Nikon Speedlight on M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hammam Posted March 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2007 Sure, you can use the SB-800 on the M8. Use it in M or A mode. It feels a bit clumsy, though, it's so top-heavy. In A, don't forget to set ISO, focal length and aperture manually, and shoot away. A mode on Nikon speedlights is really very good. The SC-17 will only be useful if you want to shoot the flash off-axis.
TDR Posted March 18, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted March 18, 2007 Thanks, Hammam. I'll give it a try. Tim R
innerimager Posted March 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2007 Please let us know how it works for you Tim. And having just attended a lecture/presentation by Larry Fink, he always waves his flash around to get side shadows, depth, and selective attention. Good reason to get the thing off the M8! ....Peter
