Belly dancer

Marc, this is a fantastic shot of a bellydancer. I have been photographing a friend, who is also a bellydancer for four years now, and I know how fast they move and how hard it can be to capture a good image ( particularly an appealing face ) You got both a great pose and facial expression in this shot.

Stephanie,

This dancer is a very good friend and my wife's master. I began to photograph her two years ago, and each time it's a challenge.

Don't mistake: only one or two from 36 pictures are valid ones :-)

Thanks for your time and kind comments.

ML,

The picture was taken with a R 6.2 (only mechanical camera) and a f:2.8/ 100 lens.

I used a flash (Metz 45 CL-4), but with very few power, to conserve the spotlights.

No filter used, for the same reason. Aperture: f: 5.6; speed: X

I hope it's useful for you :-) Thanks for looking and comment.

Marc, you are a very lucky man to have a bellydancing wife ;)

I have taken lessons over the years, by no means could I perform, but it definitly has helped me gain an intimate understanding of the movement for photography, but I am still only at about a 20% success rate.(good facial expression and pose) Still, it is alot of fun to watch and to photograph. I would love to see more of yours.

Stephanie,

I can't deny I'm a lucky man :-)

My wife is 4 years learning bellydance. Sometimes she does an exhibition with her group and master. It's funny for her, for all of them, and for me...

I think that belly dancing is something fantastic for women. They learn a lot about themself and their femininity.

And besides, it generates a really fine atmosphere inside the group and with her couples :-)

I shall post more of it, sure.

A difficult exposure that I don't think you've quite got right. The body is too dark IMHO and lacks detail. Other parts are too hot - the belt around her waist for example.

The pose is entergetic, but I don't care for the light on the left hand side.

Hans,

I'm glad you like ite. And don't worry, you will see more :-)

Steve,

I agree with you: it could be better, of course :-)

About her skin: she's from South America, with some native blood; her skin is dark, overall now (july is a sunny month in Spain, and all we go to the beach). Her skin color constrasts a lot with clear color dress, and she choosed it on purpose.

About the color: there were only 4 lightspots (2 red, 2 yellow) just on the ground of the stage, in front of her. Worse impossible.

About the background: the stage were located in the open air public park of a village (Manises, Valencia, Spain). The light you see on the left side is part of the usual lighting of the park. There were many people in this public exhibition (summer fiesta) and it was'n't possible to move and choose the best background for each moment.

This pose was a beautiful one, but not foreseeable, and I couldn't wait she repeat the same later (nor ask for it). My interest were more with her expressive and powerful exhibition, than with the background. I choosed to take the picture.

Sometimes I photograph her in her own academy, without public, and with complete light and background control. But this is another story :-)
