Guys,

I am sorry I am not as proficient as you seem to be.

what does "editing the praw list" mean and how do you do it ?

I cannot see the previews of my DNG's anymore, and Aperture does not recognize M8 DNG's... ( since update of OX 10.4.9)

+ my computer keeps on crashing in either Aperture or Iview Media Pro...

Can you help?

Hi Morgan,

Welcome to the Apple support thread, :p (joke)

A couple of things first. The 10.4.9 update did break the DNG thumb preview in the folder view, there is no fix for this either live with it or do a fresh install of the OSX and update as far as 10.4.8 ONLY

"Aperture does not recognise my M8 DNG's after 10.4.9 update". I assume you were using the "hack" posted elsewhere in this forum to enable you to use M8 DNG's once they were passed through the Adobe DNG converter?. If this was the case when you updated to 10.4.9 the update over wrote your modified raw.plist file. You'll have to go back in and re-edit the file to duplicate the Nikon-D200 entry and rename the duplicated entry (Nikon-D200 2) entry as Leica Camera AG-M8 Digital Camera.

Don't forget the 10.4.9 update will have locked the raw.plist file and before you try to edit anything you'll have to navigate to the raw.plist, right click it and goto get info, go to ownership and permissions and click the triangle beside details, go to owner and click the lock beside this and type in your admin password which will then allow you to change the owner to your username. Then change access under owner to read & write and go back up to "you can" and change to read & write also.

These changes allow you to edit and save your entries in the raw.plist file when you add the M8 profiles.

Your comments regarding Aperture and iView crashing are concerning. There is some debate on the Apple discussion forums regarding font issues and the Apple font server which supplies fonts to applications having issues after the update. You'd need to talk to someone who can understand the boot logs in the console to point you in the right direction .

I've read elsewhere that by going to the terminal app in utils and typing sudo update_prebinding at the command prompt then when prompted enter the admin password. Wait until the command prompt returns properly (about 2 min) then shut down the computer before doing anything else and restart has fixed some crashing issues.

I have no problems on my systems PPC G5 and MBP both on 10.4.9 except for the thumb preview. I've also run this sudo update_prebinding command without problems FWIW.

Other than all the above I can offer no other advice for you to follow other than if all else fails a fresh install upto 10.4.8 may be the best option.
