spydrxx Posted October 3, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted October 3, 2012 Leica doesn't recommend this due to potential damage to the ROM contacts. You can have them converted by a competent repairperson such as DAG. He did that for one of mine and it worked just fine.

urs0polar Posted October 4, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted October 4, 2012 Thanks spydrxx.Could you pls give me photo of your camera which is converted ? Anyone has another advices, pls help me? Â As far as I know, you have the lenses converted, not the camera. So you would have your two lenses fixed by Leica or a competent repair person in your area so that they mount on the R8 without damaging the ROM contacts on the R8. This way, should you get a ROM lens later, it will function fully on your R8. Â The R8 is a great camera, by the way, you'll enjoy it!
wildlightphoto Posted October 4, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted October 4, 2012 Leica doesn't recommend this due to potential damage to the ROM contacts.. Â It won't damage the ROM contacts on the camera. It might damage the camera's metering cam follower over time. Depending on which conversion is performed, the lens conversion either adds the third cam, which is nowhere near the ROM contacts, or adds the third cam and the ROM contacts. If the ROM contacts are added to the lens, the flange on the lens is replaced with one that prevents mounting the lens on a Leicaflex because the first cam follower on the Leicaflex Standard and Leicaflex SL2 would foul the ROM contacts on the lens. Â Since the R system has been discontinued and it appears the R-to-M adapter is a simple dumb tube, the ROM contacts appear to be a technological dead end with little to recommend them. I'd suggest getting the third cam added to the lens and not bother with the ROM contacts.
