wilfredo Posted March 15, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've read of problems (ie. noisy shutter) with the recent firmware update which I haven't done on my M8, and I'm wondering if I should just wait for the 1.10 version coming out in April? Â Cheers, Wilfredo+

wilfredo Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #2 Â Posted March 15, 2007 For some reason my thread got posted three times and when I tried to delete, that option was not offered, sorry. Â Wilfredo+
carstenw Posted March 15, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 15, 2007 I found 1.092 a great improvement over 1.06 and still an improvement over 1.09. I would not wait. You can always go back if you don't like it.
Iron Flatline Posted March 15, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 15, 2007 I'm pretty sound sensitive, and I can't tell the difference. If anything, mine seems to run quieter, but that's probably not true. I understand that they really did make a change that affects how the hardware is triggered. Â I waited to upgrade, too - I didn't want to find out there were unforseen issues. The firware seems to be without major problems though. Just make sure you have super-charged batteries.
Iron Flatline Posted March 15, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 15, 2007 I must add that I've had some lock-ups though. They're mainly annoying - I have to turn off the camera and turn it back on, losing a shot. Not sure if that is firmware-related, but I just added this piece of info in another thread, and thought I'd tell you about it. Â Candidly, I can't tell a big difference, in operation or in the images. If you're not sure, then wait.
wilfredo Posted March 17, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted March 17, 2007 Could the lock-up be a frimware update related issue? I haven't had that problem with 1.09. Â Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography
robsteve Posted March 17, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilfred: Â Just the improvements in colour from 1.09 to 1.092 are worth doing the update. Lightroom and the other Adobe products have much better colour with 1.092. This is mentioned in the list of changes.
35mmSummicron Posted March 17, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 17, 2007 i had no problems with fw 1.09, i have no problems with fw 1.092 Â i like some of the changes to the 1.092 interface/menu system, as well as (seemingly) improvements to image quality, in particular cleaner files at high ISOs. Â i say seemingly because i haven't done any side-by-side scientific tests between the two, only casual observations...... can't wait for fw 1.
wilfredo Posted March 18, 2007 Author Share #9 Â Posted March 18, 2007 Looks like I should go ahead. Hopefully some time this week. Â Thanks, Wilfredo
SteveF Posted March 19, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted March 19, 2007 I just went from 1.09 to 1.092. The only thing strange was the camera locking up during the update, right at the very end. Â So I formatted the SD card again, downloaded a new copy of the update file, and tried again. Â Everything seems to be working now.
adan Posted March 19, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted March 19, 2007 Wilfredo: v1.092 does add a slight double-click as the shutter opens - after a week I don't even notice it, but it is there. Â However, it is intentional (a "feature") and not likely to go away in later firmware versions. The shutter firing sequence was changed slightly to make sure the chip was "up" before the shutter opens, to eliminate the colored waterfall effect that appeared on the first frame when the shutter was released too quickly after turning the camera on or awakening it from sleep.
