steven91 Posted September 26, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I just purchased a used M8. When I received the camera in the mail, the meter appeared to be really out of focus (I can barely make out the arrows or the numbers), I had my friend look through the viewfinder as well and he can barely read what it is displaying as well. The best way to describe it is it looks as if there are a bunch of the same numbers layered ontop of each other which are all slightly misaligned, which causes the number to look like a blurred mess. The Rangefinder lines are sharp and so is the Focusing patch. The focus is right on, its only the red LED area for the meter which is all blurry. Does anyone know a solution to this problem and know how much it may cost to repair it? I've done multiple searches on the forum but found nothing concrete. You might check if a correction lens is screwed into the viewfinder. Maybe the previous owner has forgotten to remove it...., otherwise return it! Good luck John
earleygallery Posted September 26, 2012 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2012 Also make sure you are looking through the viewfinder straight on, and not at an angle - move the camera a little when it is up to your eye.
gravastar Posted September 26, 2012 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2012 Assuming it's none of the previously suggested causes. My M8 has developed exactly the same problem. As far as I can determine (although I may be wrong about this) either the LED display has become dislodged and moved or there is a small plastic light pipe associated with the display which has moved. Mark Norton who has disassembled an M8 may be able to say more if he reads this. In either case a repair by Leica is required. I've chosen not to bother with mine. Anatomy of the Leica M8 Bob. steven91 Posted September 26, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted September 26, 2012 I would prefer not to return it, as I had to pay $200 in taxes to Custom upon importing the camera I have tried looking through the camera at every angle possible, some are a little bit clearer then others but all are still blurry. There is no correction lens on the viewfinder.
