Which lens is this?

In the promtional video for the new M, magnum photographer Jean Gaumy talks about how wonderful it is to photograph in france with the new M.

Obviously he has gotten the M a bit beforehand to shoot some shots for the ads and this video. However, in the video he is fondling a lens that I cannot identify. It looks like a fairly long lens, but has a modern-ish wide-angle-ish hood, and what to my eyes look like a focussing tab.

Its too long to be a 90, possibly longer than the Apo-telyt 135, which has a built in hood .

Looks fatter than any R lens I know of.

So what is it? Is it some weird rare leica lens, or a brand new lens yet to be announced?

Why so long and with a wide angle hood. A zoom lens?

The screen shot appears at roughly 0:33 and the lens is quite clearly visible.

The coupling ring (14838) but black or something home-made? I don't know what the lower thing is on your shots but could the lens with the hood be the 35 Aspherical? Later (at about 00:57) it looks different; is the other lens a 50 Summicron perhaps?

Just a wild stab in the dark.

Edit: Here's a screenshot. Note the slight unevenness in the black ring.

Wowzers. Nice find skinnfell.

What I find bizare is if it is a coupling ring then the back of the lens looks awfully peculiar. I still wonder if Leica are "up to something". Nikon bought out an AF extender that enabled all manual focus lenses to be AF...The M is really only a Prototype....

You can obviously call me crazy I totally welcome it and It's probably explainable but I am not the sort to stop my mind wondering.

I keep coming back to the lens in THIS pic. What is it??????

Ahhh, that's definitely a coupling ring. :(

hmmm....looks different to a 35 summarit to me. It's quite long and that bare area looks different to everything in the line. It really looks like there's some kind of extender or something on it to me. Hence the thought about the Nikon AF extender. The front of it looks extrermely compact too.

However, we see clearly that the black ring or tube holds two lenses and that the lenses are arranged back to back. You can see the yellow focal length numbering and the depth of field scales. I can't quite make out the focal lengths but I would think the lower one was 24mm.

The top looks an awful lot like the summicron 28.It could be some sort of home-made device, with a lens mount in each end, like two rear lens caps glued together, but without the grip ribbing.

Yes, that could be it. With the 12452 hood.
