dkCambridgeshire Posted September 20, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted September 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) There was/is a rumour that Leica were/are considering a smaller format interchangeable lens camera. If they could make an EVIL LV camera with an APS-C CMOS sensor, it could open up another potential market ... and would be in line with their recent statement about making smaller lenses. Â Furthermore, such a sensor could be used for a future X series camera. Â dunk
Advertisement Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Hi dkCambridgeshire, Take a look here Could Leica make a LV camera with an APS-C CMOS sensor?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
timd. Posted September 20, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted September 20, 2012 ... it could open up another potential market ... and would be in line with their recent statement about making smaller lenses. Â the market is already open - it wasn't when they started talking about it. too late. Â designing and producing a new line of smaller lenses for a market in which contestants have big maket shares, presumably lower pricetags and frankly not too bad cameras takes a lot of effort. right now leica is not even able to produce their traditional lenses in demanded numbers. by the way, thy have the leica-branded panasonic stuff in that market (ok, right - it's 4/3, not aps-c). Â maybe they have good reason to do like they're doing.

Entering the me-too market would be the death of Leica. It would be like Ferrari making a 4 cylinder four seat vehicle.
