The only specific info I've been able to find is from the M and M-E brochure which provides (p. 17) that:  The new ‘Live View Zoom’ enables up to 10× magnification of the Live View display for complete control and precise focusing on fine details or at the close focusing range On my 5D2 the live view zoom has two magnifications, 5x and 10x, and I frequently find myself wishing the zoom were stepless. 10x is often too close, not only in macro situations but also when focusing video at medium distances. 5x is often good enough but for macro I often need something in-between 5x and 10x.  Leica's text seems to indicate that the zoom is, indeed, stepless but does anyone know?  cheers Philip Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Â That would be a very appealing 'R solution' for when the DMR is no longer useful. The rangefinder does nothing for me. Â However, the new M offers a solution (I would say 'a' not 'the') for R lens owners who must have a Leica digital body. I'm not sure that it will attract a glut of photographers who primarily use long telephoto or zoom lenses, and so any new lenses made specifically with the M in mind will probably have a very limited market. Â James, Â Where I think the market for longer M fit lenses is, will be those photographers, like me, who only want to carry one camera around and for that camera to be a Leica M. It would save me carting all my Visoflex gear around plus the Viso telephoto lenses are not exactly the ultimate in optical quality, in any case. Rick Posted September 19, 2012 Share #166 Â Posted September 19, 2012 Just a point of clarification; Canon DSLRs have focus conformation for R lenses already and it works quite well (Jamie). And, up to the 5DIII the screens can be changes but, the matte is so good that it isn't necessary. Â In the last year I have bought several classic long R lenses including the 280/4 with hopes of trying them out and then selling them at some point after the R-solution was announced. They are all amazing optics. The hard part is going to be selling the 280/1.4... this one I might just keep. Â Lastly, I agree that Leica will most likely make some long M lenses now. Their announcement would return the R lenses back to earthly prices and the "punters" would get screwed again. Â Bill, I agree with what you say except, long R lenses on DSLR cameras are not difficult to focus. What is difficult is taking an interesting picture with them.
