Rick Posted September 17, 2012 Share #24 Posted September 17, 2012 The sensor could be the best part. Not being from the big names it could be interesting. Maybe not super-high ISO but, if the color is done right it might be fantastic. Leica seems to put a lot of emphasis on getting the color and files right. We will have to wait and see. Get this right, and it will be a real winner. I'm optimistic because they know where the bar is set and I can't believe they'd release a new camera that couldn't match up. But as you say, we'll have to wait a little while to see, but not long, I imagine.
sdai Posted September 17, 2012 Share #26 Posted September 17, 2012 Nice - but I'll pass. Not with that obsolete Olympus EVF on it. Besides, I got my beautiful Monochrom today. Budget for this year overdrawn... You didn't mention about your budget of the next year ... for the "M". The new naming scheme is totally genius. Give me a smashing good iso 1600 and I am happy. it seems the IS0 race is the new pixel race.

leicamann Posted September 17, 2012 Share #29 Posted September 17, 2012 Nice - but I'll pass. Not with that obsolete Olympus EVF on it. Besides, I've taken delivery of my beautiful Monochrom today. Budget for this year overdrawn...However, an attractive lineup, not disappointing. Wise choice, I am not an M user but find the M Monochrome to have a special magic about it.. Rick Posted September 17, 2012 Share #30 Posted September 17, 2012 What will the total price be for: Leica M EVF Handgrip Bottom plate flash attachment SB-58 Microphone R-adapter New Batteries? LEICA PHOTO-ADAPTER FOR MOUNTING SYSTEM CAMERAS ON LEICA PREMIUM SPOTTING SCOPES Leica is going to rake in the cash on this system. Pretty smart adding all of these accessories. philipus Posted September 17, 2012 Share #31 Posted September 17, 2012 Budget for this year overdrawn... I think it was specifically about you Leica though when they decided to make the M available early next year Congrats on the MM. So far, even today's announements notwithstanding, it is still the one digital M I could imagine buying. I trust you'll bring yours to Africa. Would be very interesting to see some wildlife shots. iedei Posted September 17, 2012 Share #32 Posted September 17, 2012 the new Leica range is very exciting. Very cool to follow along for the first time ever.....i think the M-E looks amazing! M9 prices are really going to plummet now though.....as the M-E will likely be under $5k and offer everything the M9P offers right now for $6500..... If M9 prices go down, M8 prices will too! I guess i bought at the worst time (3 weeks ago)...haha! oh well..... i'm really glad the MM is still in production. I'd love to buy one in the near future.....am saving up starting now....oh wait, no...i still need to buy more lenses for my 'new' M8.1. lol. the M looks complicated if i'm honest....maybe a little too complicated for my tastes...i prefer the simplicity of the M8/M9/MM/M-E. anabasis Posted September 17, 2012 Share #33 Posted September 17, 2012 I am happy with the "M" offering because I can finally have a nice digital platform to use both my M and R glass. I can go small and descreet with my M-glass, and I can do Macro and long lens work with my R-glass. The added bonus with the super teles is there is no mirror slap and less noise to worry about than with my R8. I am quite used to the "live view" use from the Nikon system so that issue won't bother me. Now all I have to do is 6-bit code all of my M-glass. I don't really think M9/ M9P prices are going down a lot. The M-E is priced 4800 euro new, used M9's can now be found for 1000 euro less, 3800 euro, or even more. 1000 euro is quite a big difference for the same camera. And it gives u better color to (black or grey against greengrey) The M9P can be found for 4500 euro, so 300 euro less than a M-E for a nicer looking camera with saphire glass, engraving and better colors (black paint or silver chrome). Don't forget either most M9P's are still in warrenty because they are at most a little more than 1 year old. So at the end, I don't think the differences are going to be really big. AppleXPan Posted September 17, 2012 Share #37 Posted September 17, 2012 The maximum exposure time for the Leica M is only 60 seconds in Bulb mode. That is quite a let down for all those photograpghers and artists who love doing longtime exposures (volcano landscapes in moonlight, landscape + starlight, longtime exposures with strong 1000x grey filters in daylight, light painting at night... etc) The Leica M-E on the other hand sets a maximum exposure time to reasonable 240 seconds / 4 minutes in Bulb mode. The Leica M9 and M8 don't have any limits in B mode.

adan Posted September 17, 2012 Share #40 Posted September 17, 2012 Interesting that the "M" costs less (by $45) in the U.S. than the M9 "classic" did at introduction. I guess Leica has caught on that we're in a deflationary economy. While I'm glad to wait until 2013 and try the actual handling and see some actual results, my takeway right now is that features in the "M" would allow me to pay for one by unloading things it now makes superfluous (Canon 5D2 body for video and R lenses, all my R lenses shorter than 180mm, one of my M9 bodies.
