Riley Posted March 14, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 14, 2007 suggest you pose those questions over at steves reviews panasonic section http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_forum.php?id=23&sort_by=&page=1 or dcresource panasonic sectiom http://www.dcresource.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26 or dpreview panasonic section Panasonic Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review my personal take is the FZ30 now out of production, and the FZ7 which this camera replaces, are better than it this because they have the not so aggressive Venus imaging engine. But FZ30 because of manual focus and zoom lens
Guest stnami Posted March 14, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 14, 2007 panasonic died in this forum................................................some are trying to dig up the panaleica but that's joined the silent ones.... I doubt if Leica really give a shit, they are happy for the m8 to take over this forum as it deflects from their incompetence in camera production as a general product, get a bit of cash from panasonic to help prop up a ship that's drifting... probably good business sense for the immediate future or that's all they have ............ stumac Posted March 14, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted March 14, 2007 Thanks Rob and Imants, The FZ 7 has been advertised discounted but unable to obtain one. FZ 8 has raw available reading specs. Regards, Stuart

stuny Posted March 14, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 14, 2007 Stuart - WAY before the FZ-8 was released I bought an FZ-20 to accompany my D2 to India in November 2005. It has the same lens as the FZ-8, and in many ways similar specs (but no RAW). The "20" is a fast and easy camera to use so I expect the same of the "8". The only significant fault I can find with the "20" is it is easy to unintentionally change the diopter setting, making everything appear out of focus through the viewfinder. I also suspect that you want the ability to capture in RAW. At this point there seems to be just one more area to consider: your wife's interest in taking photos. If the interest is low, perhaps an actual P&S is the better choice. If not, the FZ8 is probably a good choice for her. Since the “8” is no doubt superior to my “20” consider these two of many images from the FZ20 that I've posted and gotten positive comments on. stumac Posted March 14, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted March 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rob, Thanks for links, I am not ebay savvy yet, I will talk to my supplier when I go up to Melbourne tomorrow. Stuart, two loverly shots. My wife is fairly keen, although at moment mostly grandchildren. She has a LX 1 but has trouble at arms length, I think she could cope with the evf. We hope to go to Darwin and Broome mid july. Regards, Stuart.

Guest malland Posted March 14, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 14, 2007 Imants: Do you have any views on the V-Lux 1/FZ50? —Mitch/Bangkok http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
Guest stnami Posted March 14, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 14, 2007 I wouldn't touch it , the Venus engine is the most destructive engine after the baby canons DSLRs engines treatment of colour. Works well for the masses but leaves anyone who is serious about photography with no room to move or flexibility
Riley Posted March 14, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 14, 2007 FZ30 was a way better gig same handling and lens smaller sensor, less noise no TTL flash though

Guest stnami Posted March 15, 2007 Share #15 Posted March 15, 2007 Mitch it depends on what you want it for. a E410 will beat it any day in picture quality and portability
Riley Posted March 15, 2007 Share #16 Posted March 15, 2007 yes Mitch but they are demo photos i think shooting RAW doesnt avoid noise if you are considering FZ50 (or V-Lux-1 as they are the same) you might check out those forums at the beginning of the thread theyre a helpful sort of lot, and you will get a pretty genuine opinion
