jimofnyc Posted September 3, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted September 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Many animal rights activists are pushing to get these horses off the streets because they frighten easily and often cause terrible acidents with automobiles. Thanks for looking, Jim
Advertisement Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Hi jimofnyc, Take a look here NY Horse drawn carriage. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pauledell Posted September 3, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted September 3, 2012 JIm, Â An excellent shot and I can understand the concern. Perhaps there ought to be a compromise that would allow the horse drawn carriages to be operated during off peak traffic patterns. In Fort Wayne, they are quite popular and are operated after 7:00 PM when the auto traffic has subsided. Â Paul
stuny Posted September 4, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted September 4, 2012 Jim - Â A lovely shot. I believe they should be limited to being around and in Central park.
jimofnyc Posted September 4, 2012 Author Share #4 Â Posted September 4, 2012 Thanks Paul and Stuart. Having spent some amount of time around horses (I learned to ride in exchange for cleaning stalls) I can say that horses are relatively high strung and really prefer to be out in a calm green pasture with their pals. These horses stand around most of the day breathing exhaust fumes and being assaulted by car horns, large vehicles and obnoxious tourists. At night they are in stalls located in mid-town Manhattan. No wonder some of them crack and try and bolt for freedom. I hope someone soon invents some new novelty such as hovercraft or flying cars that would catch the fancy of the tourists and help them to forget about horses in the city.
